Job Description

The Ohio Military Kids (OMK) Youth Specialist will help the State Youth Program Coordinator implement the State Youth Program, which includes the planning and execution of events for military youth experiencing both deployment and/or steady state. This service is key to the recruitment of new sponsors and support of OMK events and activities.

 
Position Requirements

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify existing military youth program resources available throughout the state.
  • Identify Child & Youth, Family Member Program or equivalent POC for each active duty and reserve component or entity in the state (i.e. ROTC, Recruiters, etc.).
  • Communicate goals and objective of Ohio National Guard Youth Program (ONGYP) initiatives to all military POCs.
  • Develop a master calendar of Youth Programs for which military youth are eligible.
  • Identify locations where military youth live and the local youth program resources that are available to them.
  • Develop internal databases.
  • Identify program needs of geographically dispersed military families and develop action steps to provide them the resources they need.
  • Develop marketing plan to get program information to military children/youth and their families.
  • Market Ohio Military Kids (OMK) and ONGYP to military families.
  • Develop government approved distribution lists to send program information to military families.
  • Attend Family Readiness Group meetings (as requested) and/or other military or local community events to provide information on ONGYP and OMK.
  • Provide monthly activity reports to ONGYP State Youth Coordinator and OMK Project Director.
  • Serve as active member of and ensure clear and consistent communication with OMK State Team and support the implementation and expansion of core OMK program elements.
  • Participate in OMK State Team meetings and/or conference calls.
  • Ensure the OMK State Team is aware of ongoing ONGYP and initiatives.
  • Develop local support network groups.
  • Meet with groups of local OMK partner organizations throughout the state to provide information on OMK and ONGYP how they can become involved.
  • Provide Ready, Set, Go! (RSG) and other ONGYP training to local networks as required.
  • Continue to build community capacity and aid networks in identifying needs and locating military families.
  • Coordinate with networks to obtain OMK and ONGYP resources including sponsors for all OMK events, to include: Hero Packs, Speak Out for Military Kids manuals, supplies and materials.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of State Inter-Service Family Assistance Committee (ISFAC) Youth team quarterly meetings.
  • Coordinate with the team in the development and expansion of ONGYP Social Media Outreach and Marketing.
  • Maintain Social Media sites, posting approved information within the established suspense.
  • Ensure the Government receives Social Media inquiries within 48 hours.
  • Expand and continue current and new Youth Program Options:
  • Provide aid to ONG State Youth Coordinator Education Outreach initiative.
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute all events that support military youth and families.
  • Provide programming aid to military youth as needed for Yellow Ribbon Events (i.e., organize; facilitate activities for children and youth).
  • Provide volunteer coordination to ONGYP and OMK State Team for Military Youth programs.
  • Coordinate online registration sites for all events and activities that require registration.
  • Manage participant database for continued tracking, marketing, and development of new youth program events and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a government background investigation including a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) and favorable completion of FBI fingerprint history check.
  • Experience with the military is required. Experience can be gained through prior military service, as a member of a military family, or through service as a military family volunteer.
  • Army/Air Guard experience/knowledge related to the job description and roles/responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Ability to develop and present briefings both internally and externally.
  • Working knowledge of the Internet, associated software, and ability to navigate so as to research issues raised through the provision of support to military members and their families.
  • Working knowledge of common office equipment, consisting of facsimile machines (FAX), photocopiers, and more advanced telephone features
  • commonly available such as forwarding and conference calls.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or demonstrated practical experience in program/project coordination applications, with 3 years of experience in a discipline centered on education, human development, administration, or social science.
  • Knowledge of the principles, policies, program goals and methodology of Child and Youth Services to include Army and Army Reserve Family Programs as necessary and knowledge to administer such programs.

This position is contingent upon award of a contract.
