About the team:

Sciton, an established but growing aesthetic medical device company located in Palo Alto, California, is seeking a motivated, mid-level magnetics engineer to work with our multidisciplinary engineering team to design, test, and implement magnetic components for incorporation into our medical laser systems. The magnetics engineer will develop and improve new magnetic components for sensing, motion control and robotics.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background and a proven track record in completing projects and solving problems creatively. Sciton has an active in-house research and development team and an intellectually stimulating environment. In this role, you will:

  • Design of new magnetics components, from design to implementation, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Perform measurements to characterize magnetic components.
  • Design test plans for implementation into larger systems.
  • Work with production and engineering to foster a culture of collaboration and progress.
  • Stay current on latest and emerging principles in ferromagnetism and technology based on ferromagnetic materials.
  • Study of existing products to understand and improve upon performance and assembly processes, as well as improve specifications and direction for suppliers.
  • Collaboration with colleagues in marketing and leadership.
  • Documentation and presentation of progress at weekly meetings.
  • Encouragement of a culture of continuous progress.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Interacting with vendors.

 
Position Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • BSc (or higher) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
  • Experience with properties of ferromagnetic materials and implementation into practical designs.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in product development or research.
  • Experience with programming languages for data analysis, such as Mathematica, Matlab, Python or Labview.
  • Candidates with fluency in Wolfram Mathematica are strongly preferred, although those with demonstrated ability with similar languages and willingness to learn will be considered.
  • Ability to work and communicate ideas effectively to non-technical colleagues.

 

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience with design of galvanometers.
  • Demonstrated ability to finish long-term projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems scientifically and creatively.
  • Experience with fabrication techniques for rapid development and testing of components.
