Position DIRECTOR, ADVOCACY COMMUNICATIONS  
Description

The Director Advocacy Communications writes and executes communications projects and strategies for THA members, lawmakers, media and the public related to THA’s state and federal advocacy priorities and strategic objectives. Identifies opportunities to write and develop communications to influence legislative and regulatory action on issues impacting hospitals and health systems. Works to increase awareness of Texas hospitals’ role through strong communications and participation in THA’s advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Writes, tailors and executes deliberate communication campaigns, plans and collateral to further THA’s state and federal advocacy priorities and influence among multiple audiences.
  • Effectively captures the THA president/CEO’s voice to inform and influence multiple audiences, including members, state and federal lawmakers and leadership, related stakeholders and editorial readers, on Texas hospitals’ advocacy priorities and role in the health care. This includes writing columns, blog posts, social media posts, presentations and talking points.
  • Writes content and manages the development, distribution and promotion of THA’s flagship advocacy publications and weekly newsletters.
  • Helps manage the THA website by writing website content related to policy and advocacy priorities, ensuring the content and supplementary materials are timely and up-to-date.
  • Writes press releases and press statements to promote and generate earned media on THA’s advocacy priorities.
 
Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Requires knowledge of a variety of health care policy issues.

Requires 5-10 years’ experience in writing clearly and effectively for a variety of audiences on complex topics.

Legislative experience or equivalent health care policy experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to maintain a professional, mature demeanor and be proficient at working with diverse personalities across all levels of the organization.

Must demonstrate strong project management, planning, analytical, communication, organization and people skills.

Strong communications skills, both written and verbal. Ability to establish priorities, work independently and manage multiple projects with little supervision.

Must possess demonstrated proficiency and application knowledge of the latest version of Microsoft Office Professional Suite and legislative tracking software.

Candidates selected to interview will be asked to provide three writing samples for review. 

Ability to travel up to 25% of the time with some overnight stays.

Must have valid Texas Drivers’ License and proof of insurance.
