JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview: The Clinical Staff Manager will supervise Medical Clinic support staff and clinic operations under the general direction of the Medical Director with administrative supervision by the Health Director

Work Location: The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Medical Clinic

Supervised By: Medical Director and Health Director

Position Status: Full Time Employee with benefits

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week- schedule to be determined by supervisor

Description: The Clinic Staff Manager collaborates with clinic leadership in the management and delivery of patient care services in support of the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Lower Elwha Health Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following list of duties is a short summary of responsibilities, not a complete list, of all that is required of this position. The Clinical Staff Manager may be assigned additional responsibilities by the Medical Director, or Health Director.

  • Supervises clinical support staff including medical assistants and certified nursing assistants. Oversees staff schedules. Conducts regular performance reviews.
  • Screens clinical support staff applicants in accordance with Tribal Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Recommends staff merit increases and promotions.
  • Performs disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Completes updates, maintains clinical support staff personnel files and ensures required forms are completed and submitted on schedule.
  • Verifies accuracy and completeness of employee timesheets and submits these bimonthly for payroll processing.
  • Maintains staffing schedules for providers, nurses and medical assistants.
  • Coordinates and conducts regular (monthly) staff meetings and publishes minutes.
  • Assists with coordinating Continuing Education for staff
  • Assures that medical equipment is properly functioning and maintained.
  • Works with staff and Health Director to create and update clinic policies and procedures.
  • Assists Medical Assistants, Nurses and medical providers with clinical operations and provide direct patient care as required.
  • Maintains medical supplies and medications at appropriate levels.
  • Troubleshoots clinic systems with a goal of continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management.
  • Attends continuing education and training events regularly and stays current on developments that can impact the medical clinic.
  • Works to assure the smooth functioning of the medical clinic and provides leadership to clinic operations in support of goals, objectives, mission, vision, and values.
  • Perform all clinical activities within CLIA/OSHA standards and clinic policy/protocol.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Washington State RN or MA License
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an ambulatory care clinic and supervisory experience of 3 or more employees.
  • Ability to train clinical staff in CNA and MA skills
  • Certification in Health Care Provider CPR.
  • Knowledge of practice management principles, scheduling efficiency and patient flow.
  • Proficiency with computers, fax machines, telephones and copy machines.
  • Proficiency with basic office productivity software such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain and respect strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to lead employees with a positive attitude, encourage initiative and accept change.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with patients and staff so as to act as a team leader, liaison between staff, management, vendors, attorneys, advisors and the public.

OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with RPMS, NextGen, EPIC and other IHS software.
  • Experience with a Tribal clinic and knowledge of IHS policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, stooping and bending intermittently.
  • Requires ability to assist with lifting and moving patients.
  • Requires ability to see/ understand colors, alpha and numerical chart systems and have visual acuity.
  • Requires ability to hear and understand verbal instructions.
  • Requires use of standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, fax machines and photocopiers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a medical office environment.
  • Involves interpersonal contact with staff and patients.

Medical Director with assistance from the Health Services Director
