Description

Summary:

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for managing the company’s Self-Funded medical, dental and vision plans.  The Specialist will administer and audit the company’s benefit plans to ensure compliance with all company policies, as well as state and federal laws. The Specialist will make recommendations for changes and provide assistance and subject matter expertise on all employee benefit programs, process, policies, vendors and other related matters, as well as serving as a resource to HR Business Partners for all benefit related inquiries.
 

Specific duties:

  • Responsible for managing the daily activities of the Health & Welfare and 401k retirement benefit plans for the Company, including managing the self-funded medical, dental and vision programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance/ reporting requirements including 5500s, ACA, FLSA, ADA, ERISA, SPDs, FMLA, EEOC, etc.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of written and electronic materials and documents for benefit programs, including annual enrollment and new employee orientation.
  • Manages annual benefit open enrollment process, including the coordination of employee/spouse meetings and/or information sessions, drafting and sending employee communications, answers questions or inquiries, annual benefits configuration in Peak HRIS, and transmits enrollment data to vendors or administrators.
  • Prepares and communicates information to current and former employees regarding benefit programs, procedures, changes, enrollments, and government-mandated disclosures, including COBRA administration.
  • Stays abreast of government regulations, benefit program trends, and prevailing practices among similar organizations.
  • Participates with benefit consultants/brokers and CHRO in evaluation of services, coverage, premiums, plan administration, and options to determine programs to meet needs of organization.
  • Accountable for FMLA administration across the Company.
  • Manages Peak HIPAA Compliance Program.
  • Answers employee benefit questions and resolves problems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study, or equivalent years of experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of benefits-related experience with self-funded plans required
  • Work in construction industry preferred
  • Work in high volume non-exempt environment preferred 
 
Position Requirements


Experience:
• AA or Bachelor’s degree.
• Familiar with human resources software applications.
• 3-5 years HR experience
• Strong ability in using MS Office (MS Excel and MS Powerpoint, in particular)
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle data with confidentiality
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Bilingual is an advantage

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required
within two weeks of employment.
• Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a
pre-employment drug screen.
