Job Summary

Under basic supervision, coordinates the Teton County Library volunteer programs to enhance services to the public and increase the library’s connection with the community by successfully involving community members as volunteers; develops and implements methods to build and manage volunteer program participation; maintains volunteer records; and provides general information and assistance to the public.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The job description is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develops and coordinates Library’s volunteer program and activities including recruiting, interviewing and scheduling; screens participants for program eligibility.
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates volunteers; and adjusts assignments as appropriate.
  • Identifies the Library’s volunteer needs and develops volunteer opportunities and assignments.
  • Assigns volunteers and resources for maximum effectiveness and benefit to Library programs.
  • Reviews and updates policies and procedures and verifies compliance and applicability.
  • Provides orientation and training programs for new volunteers; assigns duties and responsibilities and tracks volunteer hours and commitments.
  • Maintains volunteer program records and statistics, and prepares status reports and correspondence.
  • Evaluates volunteer program effectiveness through observation and consultation with supervisors.
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates appropriate formal and informal volunteer recognition and reward programs.
  • Supports the relationship between the library staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and library staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and library information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human or Social Services, or related field; AND two years pf program management, public relations, or administrative support experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience with volunteerism programs is preferred.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Required Knowledge of:

  • County and Library policies and procedures.
  • Principles and practices of administering and coordinating a volunteer program.
  • Principles and practices of public relations, community outreach, and service promotion.
  • Policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of library programs and facilities.
  • Customer service principles and practices.
  • Record keeping and records management rules and standards.
  • Local community issues and regional community resources available to citizens.

Required Skills in:

  • Managing and coordinating volunteer programs and operations.
  • Planning and coordinating programs, functions, and activities for volunteers.
  • Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of standard and specialized software.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Periodic offsite travel may be required.
  • Schedule may include evenings and weekends.

 

*This position is 30hr/wk with prorated benefits*
