Description

The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN) Division represents a collaborative of ten community colleges and seven workforce development boards in southeast Michigan and the Michigan capital area. The WIN workforce collaborative has been recognized as one of the top performers in the nation on large, multi-year workforce training grants.

Job Summary

The Communications Specialist coordinates WIN's concept and design process, creates branded materials related to various regional workforce initiatives, develops employer/partner outreach campaigns, and coordinates communications-related items for all WIN initiatives both internally and externally. This position develops and implements approved communication strategies for the organization’s websites and social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and any other relevant social media platforms. The position supports digital communications, audio and video productions, photography, and other electronic media.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Communications

  • Coordinates WIN team meetings and serves as the primary notetaker
  • Assists the WIN leadership team with scheduling meetings with partners and electronically communicating WIN updates
  • Assists the Executive Director with the compilation of WIN board meeting packets and supplemental materials
  • Develops graphics to enhance workforce program collateral materials
  • Maintains electronic files for easy retrieval of logos, boils, headshots, and resumes of all key personnel
  • Updates bios and headshots for the board and staff on websites
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the annual communications plans for all WIN projects in collaboration with WIN’s leadership team
  • Creates all printed, audio, and visual materials for communications and outreach, and ensures compliance to standards set by state and federal regulations
  • Works collaboratively with all organizational departments to help meet their needs for photo and graphics support for promotional, informational, and branding needs, to include but not limited to brochures, E-newsletters, press releases, and other recruitment/promotional materials.
  • Develops, manages, and distributes quarterly e-newsletters, and leads other email campaigns for the organization; tasks include writing articles, designing layouts, maintaining contact lists, and copy editing
  • Assists with the management of WIN public relations, including drafting press releases about events and awards, managing the media list, and distributing information to media outlets
  • Maintains and manages the organization’s image and brand library
  • Takes photos at special events, as requested
  • Responsible for the creation of displays for expos/conferences/job fairs, including set up and break down of booths
  • Participates as an active member of the WIN communications committee, a group of southeast Michigan community college and Michigan Works! representatives working to communicate about workforce and talent issues and activities in the region, including scheduling, agenda development, assisting with meeting facilitation, notetaking, roster maintenance, and activity follow up
  • Develops WIN annual reports
  • Works to develop contractual relationships with outside vendors when needed including procurement materials, bids, contracts, and vendor management
  • Creates and maintains computer files for imprinting on promotional items, printed material or other items produced
  • Maintains a photo archive of SEMCA people/places/events (both printed and digital)

Website and Social Media

  • Creates social media posts across all platforms weekly and in most cases multiple times per week
  • Plans, schedules, and manages all social media posts
  • Creates engaging multimedia content such as videos, and/or effectively outsource
  • Develops a mix of daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal social campaigns
  • Forms key relationships with influencers across all social media platforms
  • Manages and facilitates social media communities by responding to social media posts and encouraging discussions
  • Reports monthly analytics for all social media platforms to assess trends and make recommendations for improvements
  • Remains informed of what is current, new, and next both in the workforce network and in the digital content marketing space
  • Responsible for curating innovative ideas on how to consistently elevate WIN’s brand with customers, employers, partners, business leaders, community members, and other diverse audiences through WIN’s digital channels
  • Other duties as assigned
