Description

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, maintains financial information for an assigned department; processes financial and technical transactions, reviews and verifies documents, and generates status and summary reports.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The job description is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Assists the Department Director by processing financial transactions and maintaining financial accounts; using knowledge of County policies and government accounting procedures, performs experienced accounting and technical support duties, reviews accounting information, processes transactions, reconciles discrepancies, and assists with payroll and financial reports.
  • Explains accounting rules, policies, and procedures; performs duties within scope of authority and training, and in compliance with County policies and quality standards; duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Exercises initiative in performing accounting work, and resolving problems; monitors accounts, and develops accounting and transaction documents and reports.
  • Applies judgment and knowledge of the assigned department’s operations to resolve problems and make work process decisions; refers matters requiring policy interpretation to supervisor for resolution.
  • Reviews accounting documents and technical records; checks documents for validity and accuracy of information; files paperwork, and enters data into computer systems; reports variances to supervisor.
  • Maintains and reconciles general ledger and bank accounts.
  • Oversees revenue receipts, purchasing, billing, and accounts receivable; assists with audits.
  • Manages bank deposit processes, including electronic transactions, cash drawer balance, account reconciliation, and preparation of deposit documentation in compliance with basic audit standards.
  • Monitors contracts and budgets.
  • Assists County staff to resolve a variety of technical issues.
  • Resolves customer service issues with other County departments and outside government agencies.
  • Completes and coordinates special projects, program assignments, and research functions.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Business or Public Administration, or related field; AND two years of government accounting and computer experience; OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Payroll experience is preferred.

 

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Specific technical skills training and certifications may be required for some incumbents.

 

Required Knowledge of:

  • County policies and procedures, and pertinent federal and state laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for public sector accounting, payroll, and records maintenance.
  • Customer service principles, protocols, and standards.
  • Standard and specialized computer software applications.

 

Required Skills in:

  • Performing a variety of accounting functions, using knowledge of government accounting procedures.
  • Interpreting and explaining County policies and procedures and accounting standards.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and monitoring accounting documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Meeting deadlines and strict time frames for processing technical documents and reports.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Work is performed in a standard office environment.
