Description

The Assistant Director, Annual Giving is a member of the Annual Giving team, reporting to the Associate Vice President for Annual Giving, and works as a field fundraiser soliciting high-end annual gifts between $1,000 and $10,000. The Assistant Director, Annual Giving will be expected to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at these levels. Such gifts will be sought primarily for the Lucile Packard Children’s Fund, which supports three essential aspects of the Hospital’s mission: a commitment to provide medical care for any local child in need; funding for cutting-edge research in childhood diseases; and family and community services programs.

GENERAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Donors and Prospects

  • Work closely with the Associate Vice President for Annual Giving to develop effective solicitation strategies for high-end annual donors through the Circles of Leadership program ($1,000-$9,999).
  •  Manage a prospect list of 150-200 individuals capable of making annual gifts at this level.
  •  Work with current donors and volunteers to identify, cultivate, and successfully solicit a population of prospects who have the means and interest to make charitable gifts at this level annually.
  • Meet specific number goals in three key areas: upgrading current donors, generating gifts from new prospects, and appropriately stewarding leadership donors.

Strategy

  • Become an expert representative on the various entities and activities that the Lucile Packard Children’s Fund supports as well as on other programs at the Hospital for which gifts are being sought.
  • Recommend new approaches, procedures and processes to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Work cooperatively and strategically with development colleagues including the rest of the annual giving team as well as the large gifts, prospect research, stewardship, and donor relations teams.

NOTE: We are a dynamic organization in a rapidly changing industry. Therefore, the responsibilities associated with this position will change from time to time in accordance with LPFCH’s business needs. More specifically, the incumbent may be required to perform additional and/or different responsibilities from those set forth above.

 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  •  A Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline and/or equivalent experience.

Ability to lead peers to successfully manage the leadership gifts program.
  • Integrity: Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • Mission orientation: Possesses a genuine interest in improving the health and well- being of pregnant women and children. Ability to articulate a compelling case for annual support of the Lucile Packard Children’s Fund.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Required:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in fundraising or non-profit work at the corporate level.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Preferred:

  • Experience effectively soliciting gifts from individuals.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or other donor databases.
