STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Job Summary

Responsible for preparing, maintaining and processing accurate and timely accounting records and financial transactions, in collaboration with other members of the team. This position performs general accounts analysis and reconciliations, and processes appropriate financial information including fixed assets, accruals and prepaid expenses, in compliance with all general accounting principles and practices and in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.

  1. Understands and consistently follows established accounting processes, principles and methods for production and distribution of customer invoices. Prepares, enters and reviews invoices to ensure they are accurately coded, approved and in compliance with Company policies.
  2. Performs general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including fixed assets, accruals and prepaid expenses.
  3. Processes accounts receivables, including payments, producing statements of accounts and collections on overdue accounts and account reconciliation when required.
  4. Supports accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice creation and entry.
  5. Performs required daily and monthly banking activities, including processing bank deposits and all associated finance entries.
  6. Assists with month-end and year-end close procedures, including journal entry preparation, reconciliations and related reporting.
  7. Supports various accounting projects as needed, including systems or process implementation and enhancements.
  8. Prepares documentation for external auditors and internal reports as requested. Communicates risks and exposures to management as needed.
  9. Implements LEAN concepts and methodologies for continuous improvement of accounting and business processes and activities. Educates others on LEAN approaches.
  10. Accurately and confidentially maintains Company and client records and other sensitive data.
  11. Maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  12. Promotes the Company image through exercising sound and ethical business practices and providing quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers and the public.
  13. Cultivates strong and cooperative working relationships with internal and external customers.
  14. Provides mentoring, coaching and training to co-workers and other employees as needed.
  15. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies relevant to the industry.
  16. Supports the mission, vision and values of the Company and works creatively to best support the Company’s long-term goals. Champions and models the Company culture at all times.
  17. Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
  18. Follows all guidelines, policies and procedures established by the Company.

 

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  1. Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience in business administration, accounting or a related field.
  2. Minimum 3-5 years of work experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role, with experience working in a deadline-driven environment, preferably in the construction industry.
  3. Experience working with accounts receivable and payable, general ledger, cash flow, month end close, bank reconciliations, etc.
  4. Experience using database, spreadsheet, accounting and billing software and systems, preferably eCMS and/or Astea software systems.
  5. Experience with and demonstrated understanding of basic accounting practices, principles and guidelines, the accounts payable and receivable cycles and the audit process.
  6. Extensive project management training, experience and skills. Thorough understanding of the project life cycle.
  7. Training and work experience with LEAN methodologies and applications. Strong process orientation.
  8. Strong business acumen and experience collaborating with senior leaders in a high growth, process-oriented business setting.
  9. Superior analytical and mathematical skills. Skills to read and interpret financial documents.
  10. Demonstrated enthusiasm for expanding knowledge and skills to meet the needs of a dynamic technology office while directly contributing to the success of others.
  11. Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  12. Strong and professional team player, with effective collaboration, organizational, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  13. Strong initiative, prioritization and customer service skills.
  14. Strong independent problem-solving skills and high detail orientation.
  15. Demonstrated high level of integrity, judgement and dependability.
  16. Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills, including high quality documentation and report preparation. Strong telephone communication skills.
  17. Ability to manage workflow and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with multiple and sometimes changing priorities.
  18. Expertise in Microsoft Office software applications, specifically Excel.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in business administration, accounting or a related field.
  2. CPA Certification.
