Location HDT (Huntsville, AL)  


The primary function of this position is cutting out, shaping, or trimming material or articles such as canvas goods, lightweight fabrics and olefin fabrics, as specified by the cutting work orders to facilitate subsequent operations by performing the following duties:

Primary and Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Select correct material from storage rack using lift device and place on cutting table or carousel rack (Gerber).
  • Select correct cut file from files on computer system and verify with product number on work order.
  • Verify the correct measurements, punch locations, cuts and marks on first pieces cut to ensure accuracy.
  • Shapes or trims excess material from parts and place in scrap receptacle.
  • Observes and identifies any quality discrepancies and notifies the department lead or supervisor
  • Assembles and/or folds articles after cutting.
  • Accurately and legibility prepare daily cut report and submit to supervisor at end of shift.
  • Positions and identifies cut parts in bundles or carts prior to transporting to the sewing department
  • Observes operation of the cutting equipment, spreaders and Philo tables, to detect and report to the supervisor or maintenance mechanic any malfunctions. Cleans and oils the cutting tables and all equipment in accordance with the maintenance instructions
  • Operates production equipment such as straight knife, scissors, fabric welder, circle cutter, strip cutter and grommet setter
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards, obeds by printed and/or verbal work order instruction and integral samples
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned
  • May participate in lean/six sigma/quality/safety initiatives as required
  • Conducts daily maintenance and cleaning of equipment and performs weekly calibration
  • Complete additional tasks as required or directed by supervisor or department lead

Years Experience

  • 1 – 3 years of industry experience preferred

Level of Education

  • High School diploma or GED preferred. In lieu of diploma, relevant work experience demonstrating the required job skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the job.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to work from verbal, written or diagram form instructions
  • Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers
  • Ability to work adjusted schedules and overtime when required
  • Knowledgeable about and follows company's Quality Assurance standards as described in the quality manual
  • Operation of small power tools, other hand tools, computerized and high-pressure equipment
  • Goal oriented and team focused to ensure completion of projects in a timely manner

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • Work is accomplished in a moderately clean plant environment
  • The production floor does not have a cooling system
  • The sound level in the work environment may fluctuate due to noises associated with manufacturing process
  • Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil and/or fumes

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Performs all work in accordance with safety and workmanship and good housekeeping specifications
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs., occasional lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, work overhead with arms, and sit or stand for several hours at a time
  • Eye/hand coordination required, with steady and agile hands to operate equipment and tools
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required per plant rules


  • New employee safety orientation and training on special tools or software required for job performance
