Sr Housing Specialist – Permanent Supportive Housing Program

Wyandot BHN is seeking a dedicated Senior Housing Specialist to join our team! This position supports the Permanent Supportive Housing program, housing chronically homeless adults with a history of severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI). The Senior Housing Specialist will conduct participant orientations, compile required documentation for program enrollments, review participant leasing agreements, follow up with unit inspections, collect appropriate paperwork for interim and annual re-certifications.

Other vital duties will include assisting with completing relevant monthly reports; auditing participant’s files for accuracy of HUD policies/procedures and regulations and other applicable federal, state, and local laws. In addition, this role will serve as a liaison between participants and landlords/property managers, conduct site visits of properties to ensure clients remain in good standing, and facilitate conflict resolution as needed.

  •  Ensure that all treatments and interventions are delivered consistent with their programmatic intent and outcomes.  Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, standards, and best practices in order to satisfy HUD requirements.
  •  Actively research and engage in the identification of internal and external resources and benefits which may be advantageous to the clients being served. Ensure all clients are appropriately connected to resources necessary for them to accomplish their expected treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Ensure regular and consistent communication/feedback with supervisors regarding the practical application of professional training, best practices, philosophies and standards consistent with those taught and directed by the organization.

  • Develop and maintain respectful, courteous and professional relationships with all clients and community partners. 
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively with internal and external individuals.

Addtional Essential Functions:

  • Integrate evidence-based practices into all aspects of program implementation, including Housing First, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, and Strengths-Based practices. Research, adapt, in new best practices.
  • Conduct interviews, in concert with housing partners, of potential housing candidates and ensure eligibility of clients.
  • Ability to adapt to organization needs, conditions, and work resposibilitites; respods to change with positive attitude and a willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives.
  • Work with HSS’s and other case managers to proactively address any issues that would negatively affect clients’ housing or wellbeing. 
  • Work collaboratively with the internal and external service providers, exchange ideas, and address issues in a constructive manner.    
  • Track and schedule all enrollments and recertifications for program participants to ensure all required documentation is received.
  • Complete required paperwork, obtain the required documentation and work collaboratively with the Director of Housing Programs to ensure housing files meet HUD standards. This includes rent calculations, collection of award letters, rent collections, Etc.
  • Conduct site visits(scattered and single congregate sites) assist participants with move-ins, move-outs as need it. 
  • Ensures compliance with Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination in housing-related transactions based on disability in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. 29 U.S.C. § 794- A Fair Housing training will be provided to CoC membership once a year. 
  • Participate in CoC meetings and other community meetings as determined by the Director of Housing Programs.
  • Identify and research community resources to support the overall participant’s stability in the Permanent Supportive Housing Program.
  • Uphold client confidentiality
  • Act as a steward of the organization’s resources. Ensure all resources are utilized legally and ethically, and all people entrusted to manage or represent the affairs of KWH are adequately directed and highly effective. Ensure the organization is financially sound and functions as a viable business concern at all times.
 
Position Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in the human services field, with emphasis preferably in social work, psychology, or related field, or three years of equivalent experience working in community health centers or persons experiencing homelessness.   
  • Familiarity with mental health theory, emerging promising practices, and Evidence-Based Practice.
  • Solid verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Good attention to detail to ensure program requirements and compliance are maintained
  • Demonstrated success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence within the construction industry, finance and investment community, local community agencies and government entities.

Pay Range $19-20 dollars per hour
