The Senior Product Manager leads a product portfolio. You will be an entrepreneurial thinker and responsible for defining and driving a strategy for your portfolio to solve market problems and achieve key product health metrics. This role is deeply cross-functional; critical to your success is the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with leaders across Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Client Success. What are the general responsibilities of the position? 

  • Integrate products into a coherent portfolio focused on the market. Manage the portfolio like a “product” (business plan, positioning, buying process, market requirements and marketing plan).
  • Discover problems in the market via internal and external stakeholders and sources, and validate the urgency, opportunity, segments, and other key aspects of those problems.
  • Own product strategy for the portfolio, consolidating all inputs into a product forecast to balance corporate and stakeholder priorities, Act as primary presenter of forecast to internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Manage a team of 2 – 3 product managers to drive execution of product strategy and optimize their performance and growth. 
  • Work closely with Product Marketing to articulate and leverage the products’ unique abilities to deliver value to the market. Describe the product by its ability to solve market problems. Create internal positioning documents that will be used to develop external messages focused on each key buyer or persona. 
  • Determine the most effective way to deliver a complete solution to an identified market problem. Where you have gaps in your offering, analyze whether to buy, build or partner to complete the solution for your market 
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to determine how well the product is performing in the market, how it impacts the company operations, and ultimately, how it contributes to profit.
  • Establish and maintain a presence as an industry thought leader related to the scope of your portfolio, thus enhancing the Ascentis brand to current and future clients. 
  • Drive cross-team processes and relationships to ensure organizational readiness to effectively build, market, sell, implement, and support products. 
 
Position Requirements

What are we looking for in a candidate? 

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in SaaS product management to include leading concurrent streams of work with multiple teams and roadmaps.
  • Ability to conduct market, competitor, and custom research to gather insights and assess market opportunities.
  • Experience owning, prioritizing and driving a product strategy to meet market and business needs.
  • Experience leading products through the full life cycle from inception to end of life.
  • Enough technical knowledge to speak intelligently with Engineering leadership to ask the right questions to assess impact of technology considerations on product strategy.
  • Ability to communicate directly and clearly, modulating delivery to meet wide variety of audiences from internal leaders to escalated customers to front line engineers.
  • Moderate travel required to Ascentis locations, clients, and industry events

 

Education/experience/technical considerations: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience in the Human Capital Management (HCM) industry preferred.
  • Ability to partner with Product Marketing to create clear value propositions, messaging strategies and collateral.
  • Ability to use data to make informed decisions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Agile Scrum standards to coach and influence effectiveness and efficiency of processes.
