Description

Overall Summary

The primary function of this position is directing and overseeing receiving employees and process, stocking, material control, packaging and distributing of materials, parts, supplies, products and equipment within the warehouse by performing the following duties:

Primary and Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for controlling accuracy of storeroom inventory both physically and in SAP
  • Timely receipt of goods and supply to the shop floor
  • Reading customer orders, work orders, packing slips, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed and/or shipped.
  • Moving materials/items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or to other designated areas.
  • Sorting and placing materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Filling requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes items to shipping or to designated route driver storage area.
  • Ensuring warehouse is accessible and safe for salespeople and customer traffic.
  • Assembling customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or relocating orders to a holding area or shipping department.
  • Marking materials with identifying information using appropriate method.
  • Recording amounts of materials/items received or distributed via appropriate computer program.
  • Weighing and counting items for distribution within plant to ensure conformance to standards.
  • May be assigned facilities maintenance duties as needed.
  • Completing requisition forms to order supplies from other departments.
  • Supervises the entry of receiving transactions to ensure accuracy
  • Ensures incoming shipments are inspected for visible damage and process insurance claim with freight carrier when necessary
  • Supervises raw material movement within manufacturing facility to ensure on time delivery to work centers
  • Responsible for inventory control functions to include timely cycle counts
  • Provides high quality and consistent support to other departments
  • Assist shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders and distributing to sales associates for processing.
  • Maintains a clean and safe shipping/receiving/warehouse area
  • Plans, assigns and directs work to all team members
  • Ensures all required paperwork is retained per procedures
  • Maintains inventory of warehouse materials and supplies
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • This position assigns work, recommends improvements in production methods and operating procedures.
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards and ensures these practices are being met

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department
  • Compiles and analyzes volumetric data, identify patterns, forecast changes
  • Teams with buyers and suppliers to develop activities that support changing market demands
  • Initiates ''what-if'' analyses and modeling projects to determine opportunities for savings and increase in customer service and on-time delivery performance
  • Participates in cross-functional teams to promote organized teamwork and inter-departmental cooperation
  • May participate in lean/six sigma/quality/safety initiatives as required
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises Receiving Leads and Associates

Years Experience

  • 5 years warehousing, inventory, and receiving experience
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience
  • Freight management experience required

Level of Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelors degree preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English
  • Integrity for securing materials as the main person responsible for access to storeroom goods
  • MRP/ERP system experience preferred (i.e.: SAP experience is a plus)
  • Experience with material replenishment to line side storage locations preferred
  • Knowledge of military shipping specifications a plus
  • Lean manufacturing principles (Kanban, Kaizen events) preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and problem solve
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with employees and managers at all levels within the company
  • Demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, willing to work overtime when necessary
  • Goal oriented and team focused to ensure completion of projects in a timely manner

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • Work is accomplished in a moderately clean plant environment
  • The production floor does not have a cooling system
  • The sound level in the work environment may fluctuate due to noises associated with manufacturing process
  • Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil and/or fumes

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Performs all work in accordance with safety and workmanship and good housekeeping specifications
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs., occasional lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, work overhead with arms, and sit or stand for several hours at a time
  • Eye/hand coordination required, with steady and agile hands to operate equipment and tools
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required per plant rules

Training

  • New employee safety orientation and training on special tools or software required for job performance

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred; or related experience or training.
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Goal Oriented and team focused to ensure completion of projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work from verbal and written instructions.
  • Operation of small power tools, other hand tools and computerized and high-pressure equipment.
