Description

Outpatient Behavioral Health practice seeking an experienced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to perform psychiatric health assessments and data collection, focusing on behavioral, psychological, cognitive and cultural needs of the patients.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Works independently to provide health care to patients including psychiatric diagnosis and treatment, and mental health assessments, mixed with brief psychotherapy.
  • Independently obtains medical histories, distinguish diagnosis and orders appropriate and standard laboratory and diagnostic procedures, as necessary.
  • Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient’s plan of care.
  • Provides patient education about underlying medical condition, self-management of acute or chronic illnesses and tailors instructions to patients’ individual circumstances. Instructs and counsels patients regarding therapeutic regimens, promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Prescribes medications.
  • Documents exam and progress notes. Provides referral letters as needed.
  • In addition to in-person office visits, the Nurse Practitioner will also be available for telehealth appointments, utilizing medical group’s approve platform.
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability, including but not limited to serving in the first assisting role.
  • Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring and discharging patients.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Ensure HIPAA guidelines are followed at all times.

Position Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • New York State License as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Master's degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and Board Certified as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges as outlined by New York State laws.
  • Displays appropriate medical decision making.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work with other medical professionals.
  • EMR experience.
  • Knowledgeable of documentation principles required for appropriate billing
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision making skills
  • Meet all organizational requirements for mandatory education at the time of employment and annually, thereafter

 

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) order that all hospitals and nursing homes “continuously require all covered personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.”  Upon receipt of a conditional job offer, candidates who are not already vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol. The order allows for limited medical exemptions with reasonable accommodations, consistent with applicable law.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

May spend a great deal of their professional day walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies. Ability to lift 20 pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients or objects may involve lifting of up to 50 pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend or twist their body, as well as visual acuity.
