Vineyard Manager 

Description

Trump Winery, Virginia’s largest vineyard, is seeking a Vineyard Manager. Planted with nearly 200 acres of French vinifera varieties for still and sparkling wines, the Vineyard Manager will play a key role in the continued refinement of our vineyard farming practices. This position will work with the winemaker in growing premium wine grapes through data collection, analysis, logistical support, as well as assist in day to day operations and labor management. This is a full-time, year-round positon. Compensation package to include employee housing if desired.

Location: Trump Winery - 20 minutes south of Charlottesville

Wage: DOE, Competitive

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Maintain the chemical spray program including health and safety compliance and training, record keeping, proper chemical selection and purchasing, and adherence to spray intervals and worker reentry
  • Create annual farm plan related to pruning and redevelopment strategies, canopy management techniques and timing, and soil fertility
  • Collect and analyze viticultural data including: pruning weights, phenology tracking, crop estimates, tissue testing, berry development, and soil tests
  • Perform vineyard observations including pest and disease scouting, crop health, and efficiency
  • Manage and oversee annual fruit sales including pricing, contracts, deposit, scheduling, and payment
  • Monitor the department's budget and obtain approval from management when additional spending is necessary
  • Manage, train, and oversee full and part time staff to complete day to day vineyard operations
  • Keeping accurate records of all vineyard operations
  • Manage and oversee compliance with vineyard H-2A labor program
  • Code and approve invoices for accounting in a timely fashion
  • Provide instructions for new hires on company's time keeping policy according to handbook, enrolling hourly employees at a timeclock once employee ID # has been assigned
  • Verify accurate payroll records, submitting signed time sheets in a timely fashion to the Controller on payroll processing days
  • Ensure understanding of and enforce all company policies with employees; issue disciplinary action notices when needed; submit all HR paperwork in a timely fashion to Controller for employee file
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for employees following company standards; providing documentation to Controller for personnel files
  • Develop and implement applicable training programs for department and help to create and update SOPs when necessary
  • Provide accurate reports: employee hours, schedules, pay rates, job changes, etc
  • Create, train, and follow safe operating procedures; safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental and team member’s safety
  • Participate in continuing education programs and research within the industry to enhance expertise
  • All other projects and tasks that may be assigned from time to time

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Viticulture or related Agricultural Science required
  • 5+ years viticulture experience, preferably in environments managing a minimum of 50 acres of wine grapes including hands on vineyard management and team development
  • Hands on experience planting new vineyards including clone, root stock, and site selection
  • Physically fit and capable of standing for 8 hrs, push, pull, twist, and lift 70 lbs
  • Good analytical and computer skills
  • Pesticide Applicators License desired
  • Valid Driver’s required
  • Conversational Spanish required
  • Strong interest in producing ultra-premium wine
  • Possess a “can do” attitude and believes anything is possible with the right focus
