Job Description

The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) is looking for a Database & Gift Processing Specialist to join our Development team. This individual will serve as part of a team that is committed to growing philanthropic support at the nation’s premier organization focused on the transformative impact of data-driven interventions in public safety.

The Database & Gift Processing Specialist will be responsible for the integrity of CPE’s fundraising database, ensure accurate recording of all donations, and provide database support and training to all users. The ideal candidate will have experience ensuring the highest level of data quality for donor and/or customer relationship management databases and a strong passion for equitable justice and criminal law reform.

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Development.


  • Utilize Salsa CRM/Engage, Salesforce NSP, and other software programs to capture and enter, retrieve, calculate, code, and report data
  • Review and manage fundraising data and lists for accuracy and ensure confidentiality
  • Identify and address operational challenges and participate in short-term projects to enhance database system usage
  • Partner with Salesforce migration team and CPE Salesforce Administrator to implement Salesforce for Development team; facilitate staff training on any changes
  • Develop and produce a variety of reports including mailing lists, donor recognition lists, data files, prospective donor lists, and other information using reporting tools for all fundraising initiatives
  • Perform data entry to ensure accuracy and relevant biographical and demographic information for donors, volunteers, and other constituents
  • Assist with the processing, recording, and acknowledgment of all gifts, pledges, and payments received
  • Act as liaison with the CPE Finance team to reconcile gifts, pass-through gifts, soft-credit information, and ensure accuracy of funds
  • Work with Development and communications staff to oversee online giving pages on CPE’s website, which includes processing credit card gifts received online and by mail
  • Assist with training new staff members on database usage, and serve as a resource to current staff, developing and implementing policies, procedures, standards and templates for the effective use of the database


  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3 to 5 years experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database and processing, possessing strong knowledge of fundraising principles and practices
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with program and administrative staff
  • Advanced working knowledge of Salsa and/or Salesforce preferred
  • Ability to oversee and prepare complex database queries, exports, imports, and custom reports in multiple donor databases
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Ability to use critical thinking to navigate and analytically solve complex problems
  • Comfort with managing up and communicating ideas and recommendations clearly and convincingly
  • Is highly organized and systematic, with superb attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy
  • Passionate about social justice issues
