Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. The college seeks to prepare students to serve Christ and the world in all areas of society, including work, family, and the church. Description

Summary of Responsibilities: Directs safety and security activities and initiatives on campus including patrol, parking enforcement, and emergency response. Assists with environmental compliance efforts.

 

Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.

  1. Directs campus wide security and safety efforts
    1. Maintains campus-wide parking enforcement and signage
    2. Ensures response to emergency calls
    3. Investigates breach of security issues on campus
    4. Educates students and employees on security & safety matters
    5. Prepares and monitors department budget
    6. Responsible for supervising and scheduling of full and part-time security officers
    7. Assists in recruiting security staff
    8. Prepares monthly and annual reports for the College and PA State Police
    9. Maintains compliance with the specifications of the Cleary Act
    10. Prepares crime statistics and surrounding area as required by PA Dept. of Ed.
    11. Oversees traffic flow and security for major events
    12. Serves on the Safety Committee in a leadership role
    13. Serves on Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT)
    14. Oversees compliance issues related to EPA, DEP, and OSHA
    15. Acts as liaison between campus community and Vice President of Operations
    16. Partner with Vice President / Dean of Student Development regarding student conduct and safety matters
    17. Attends seminars as necessary to become familiar with safety and environmental compliance
    18. Develops policies and procedures necessary to fulfill environmental and safety regulations
    19. Coordinates or conducts training necessary to fulfill safety and environmental regulations
    20. Maintains facility-wide environmental compliance records
  2. Supervision:
    1. Supervise regular and student employees to include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, coaching, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    2. Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.
  3. Miscellaneous
    1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  1. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Physical: Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, fax machines, copy machines, modems, and telephones.
  3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill, and abilities.
    2. Act 235 certification, preferably with experience in a post-secondary environment
    3. Experience: 5 years’ experience in law enforcement and/or security including at least two years in a supervisory capacity
      1. Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability status.
    4. Skill/Abilities:
      1. Principles of campus security
      2. Principles of supervision
      3. Patrol procedure
      4. Local and state laws pertaining to campus security
      5. First Aid and CPR
      6. Parking enforcement
      7. Report writing
      8. General office knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and email
    5. Christian Commitment: eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Experience: Security experience in Higher Education
    2. Pennsylvania Act 120 Police certification
