Our vision is to get God's Word to every person, and we do this by recording Audio Bibles in every language and freely sharing them using the latest technology. We currently offer recordings in more than 1000 languages spoken by nearly 6 billion people around the world. Position Pacific Area Director - Independent Contractor

Description

The Pacific Area Director is responsible for nurturing partner relationships in the Pacific for all Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) purposes and goals as it pertains to Vision 2033, including the acquisition of text agreements for new and existing Bible translations; the implementation of Scripture engagement activities using the audio Bible and the Gospel Films; coordinating and directing all digital engagement activities for the area; and promoting and seeking Oral Bible Translation (OBT) opportunities in the area. As FCBH’s key strategist and face to partners in the area, this person works with other FCBH contract workers in the region and with Albuquerque, New Mexico headquarters. The Pacific Area Director, in collaboration with the Albuquerque office, is responsible to develop a budget for the region and supervises assigned contract workers and field coordinators in the Pacific under his/her supervision. Provides special services for staff and visitors to the Pacific as well as collaborating in the promotion of fundraising efforts. This is an independent contract position that will reside in the Pacific area.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and nurture relationships and partnerships with all partners in the assigned countries of the Pacific to meet the V2033 goals.
  • Seek opportunities working with national organizations, local churches, language communities, to initiate OBT projects to fulfill V2033 goals.
  • Build the needed team of FCBH program coordinators, trainers, researchers etc. and assist with the hiring of additional recording teams to fulfill the needs of V2033. Provide recommendations to Language Recording Coordinator for the vetting of new recording partners.
  • Take responsibility for researching language communities who need further investigation to determine their Scripture or Audio/Video needs based on FCBH criteria. This could include building a team of surveyors and other staff.
  • Develop strategic plans for respective countries working with Albuquerque office in order to meet V2033 goals.
  • Facilitate the securing of intellectual property agreements with text copyright holders; identify and qualify new languages for recording; pursue oral Bible translation opportunities.
  • Collaborate regularly with designated FCBH language recording staff to ensure effective and constructive communication, coordination and planning of recordings to achieve V2033 goals.
  • Work in collaboration with existing partners in good standing, and develop new partnerships, for implementing Scripture engagement/programs goals using audio Bibles, Gospel Films and digital initiatives.
  • Prioritize, plan and execute all Scripture Engagement projects including various approaches, models and strategies relevant to any given partnership or region including but not limited to Field Programs, Global Bible Network & digital programs, partner/hybrid programs. Work with existing FCBH contract staff, National Bible Societies and regional partners and translation organizations in the Pacific.
  • Provide expert advice to other FCBH departments concerning the Pacific region including networks and churches, Distribution and Scripture Engagement, Engaging with Christian business community, Marketing, Technology Development, and Senior Leadership
  • Provide regular information and reporting of programs for promotion, fundraising and donor relations.
  • Regular travel to oversee projects, meet with new and existing partners and field workers, to gain a deep understanding of challenges and opportunities.
  • Build relationships with key leaders throughout the Pacific region at global conferences/meetings and as needed to advance partnerships and ministry goals.
 
Position Requirements

Required:

  • A passion to serve in a faith-based ministry to provide the Scripture to all cultures and people.
  • A good standing member of a local church with a good reputation in the community.
  • Ability and willingness to work across all Christian denominations.
  • Three years of experience in international missions preferable in the Pacific region.
  • Ability to speak read and write English at a competent and understandable level.
  • Experience working in partnership and networking with missions and churches and in cross-cultural environments.
  • Flexible to work with people in other time zones in Albuquerque, New Mexico, or other regions of the world.
  • An undergraduate degree (BA/BS) or theological studies (BD/M/Div), or related fields that can apply to the needs of the region. Or, the equivalent of five or more years of related field experience.
  • Budget, financial management and reporting experience in an international organization.
  • Strong computer skills – in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Internet.
  • Ability to use various social media tools like facebook, WhatsApp, Signal etc.
  • Organizational skills –prioritizing, time management and management of multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to travel extensively – up to one to three weeks at a time in a month.
  • Learning attitude, servant heart and flexibility to adjust to new work environment.
  • Ability to work alone, self-motivated to consistently pursue set goals.
  • Ability to relate and work with people and national leaders from a different culture and nationality; value a different opinion or perspective in doing ministry.
  • Keen ability to strategically analyze a challenging situation and process best solutions with partners and staff, overseeing implementation and follow up.
  • Ability to speak in public and communicate effectively to groups of all kinds.

Preferred:

  • An understanding of Bible translation work accompanied by a knowledge of the inner workings by main organizations involved in it (Bible Societies, Wycliffe, SIL, Seed Co., Pioneers Bible translators etc.)
  • Experience leading a multi-cultured team working remotely.
  • Ability to speak one or more languages spoken in the region (besides English).
  • Some degree of pastoral or ministerial experience would be preferred.
  • Eligibility to travel occasionally to the USA is preferable; therefore, proven ability to qualify for a U.S. visa is desirable.
