GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Join The Movement Curator will work with and under the direction of the Minister for Racial Justice to develop the Join The Movement campaign for the United Church of Christ, with an emphasis on the collective efforts of the wider church toward becoming an anti-racist church. Primarily responsible for planning and executing the denominational vision for a compelling and engaging missional initiative. Work with the Minister for Racial Justice to execute the efficient curation of Join The Movement activities and the story that is the UCC. Maximize the capacity within the UCC to actively sustain audience engagement in a meaningful missional initiative for the denomination within a theological framework.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Minister for Racial Justice to identify graduates of Sacred Conversations to End Racism (SC2ER) to act as collaborators in identifying the anti-racism work of the wider church at all the intersections of race.
  • Set goals and objectives for the biennium through a collaborative process with Movement stakeholders – National Staff/Teams, United Church of Christ Board, Conference Ministers, Local Churches, and partner ministries.
  • Serve as Chief Griot, interviewing and recording stories of local church work and witness to anti-racism and posting them to the website.
  • In consultation with OPTIC:
    • Manage the Join The Movement website.
    • Create and manage Join The Movement social media pages.
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle.
  • Work with OPTIC team members to create, update, and refresh Join The Movement digital content on UCC’s websites, social channels, newsletters and promotional material.
  • Convene the Racial Justice Collaborators for monthly meetings.
  • Work with the Racial Justice Minister to convene an in-person annual collaborator gathering.
  • Write a monthly Movement article for the webpage and news team.
  • Serve as a resource and connector for churches and conferences.
  • Staff the UCCB Racial Audit work under the direction of the Minister for Racial Justice.
  • Host Racial Justice think tanks as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of academic study and experience;
  • Proven experience in team, program, and stakeholder management.
  • Understanding of project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capacities to be a self-starter, able to prioritize work and to perform work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to edit and proofread materials.
  • High degree of computer competence including knowledge of the current versions of Word, Excel, and related software.
  • Desire to be a team player who can create and maintain a thriving team environment.
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in a diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious setting with a commitment to pluralism in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the United Church of Christ polity, structure and its mission.
  • Must be trained in SC2ER and faith-based organizing (training will be provided if needed)
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the United States.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recent experience working in a United Church of Christ local church or conference setting.
