Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires completion of course work equivalent to the academic requirements of a Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation administration, program management, business or public administration, or a related field.
Seven (7) years of experience in local government parks and recreation management, including four (4) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience as a parks and recreation director or as an assistant parks and recreation director; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above may be considered.
Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) Certification is preferred. National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Accreditation and/or the completion of the NRPA Directors School is a plus.
Must be able to pass a criminal background.
Must be able to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays as required.
No felony convictions within the prior ten (10) years or while employed in the position.
Requires a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight up to 35 pounds.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Able to hear in-person; as well as, distinguish radio and telephone conversations, recognize differences or changes in sound patterns and loudness or pitch.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
Communications: Requires the ability of clearly speaking and/or conversing to exchange information in a manner that can be professionally understood by others. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to assigned staff, coworkers, or supervisors.
Attendance: Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that the failure of such attendance undermines the City’s ability to provide critical services to employees, department and the public.
Travel: Some travel may be required to maintain training requirements, obtain supplies and equipment for the operations of the department. Overnight travel is limited to training.
