JOB SUMMARY

The Cabin Electronics team in Astronics AES is looking for a mid-career engineer experienced with aircraft cables and installations who is looking to become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Team Lead for the Product Team. This person will work closely with the current SME and Team Lead to learn our products, processes, and organization and eventually take over as the SME and Team Lead. The person in this role will work closely with the Customer Program Managers as well as the Product Development team to directly support the aircraft OEMs as well as airlines around the world.

The successful candidate for this role will have demonstrated the ability for team leadership, be detail-oriented while also understanding how a whole system works together, and have experience working closely with customers and suppliers as a partner. An understanding of the business impacts from technical decisions is also strongly desired.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform calculations and analysis required for aircraft cable installation and certification to include but not limited to, system electrical load analysis data and record per engineering documents requirements.
  • Perform component selection, system cable design and prepare assembly drawings and associated parts list per engineering, manufacturing and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the planning, organization and management of cable certification to include but not limited to certification plan development, preparation of engineering submittals for certification approval, and the coordination of conformity inspection and testing of aircraft cables.
  • Attend Technical Coordination Meetings (TCMs), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), and First Article Inspections (FAIs), and represent company as technical focal point with customer, seat suppliers, FAA/DERs, and others as required by customer contracts.
  • Oversee physical installation of company equipment to ensure compliance to engineering drawings, procedures, and instructions.  Immediately resolve errors or conflicts to meet on-time completion and certification of installation.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 10 – 25% of the time to support customer needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline preferred and 5 years related experience.  Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Proficiency with Autocad, 3-D modeling, MS Project, Word, Excel, and an ERP system.

  • Must be a US Person (under ITAR rules) to be eligible.
