General Summary

Astronics Test Systems is looking for a motivated Master Planner to join our growing team!  The Master Planner is a key role that will drive consistency across the business by ensuring that project plans identify team members, deliverables, time lines, strategies and objectives. By developing schedules or reviewing and providing feedback to schedules, the position will promote better understanding of our projects and foster communication within the team members regarding status, delivery dates and potential risks. This position will often act as a team leader on new and critical programs and will serve as the liaison between different project groups and project stakeholders to build and maintain accurate schedules. They will also mentor and train other leaders maintaining schedules on programs and projects to facilitate more uniform use of MS project across the business. The position will also work closely with the Program Managers and Finance to analyze project expenditures and budgets, sending out progress reports to team members, and program leadership about issues or problems that may hinder project completion.  They also support what-if exercises and change planning to assist in development of work around plans for schedule issues.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads and drives use of detailed schedules across ATS programs at all locations. 
  • Validate and expand use of MS Project and detailed Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) across ATS
  • Define and roll out a common structure and processes for an IMS to maximize effectiveness and improve accuracy of schedule data and ensure sufficient detail to monitor progress, assess program status, identify issues in a timely manner and manage resources.
  • Ensure IMS process supports ATS program and financial reporting schedule
  • Personally support programs in the creation of detailed schedules for new start up programs
  • Review existing program schedules on an ongoing basis and provide feedback to PMs
  • Assess and communicate overall program health based on schedule data and metrics
  • Ensure schedule data and financial data are consistent and integrated
  • Over time, expand use of detailed schedules to other efforts (R&D programs, Proposals, etc)
  • Assists programs in development of recovery plans to ensure program milestones are completed in accordance with the contract requirements through critical path methodology and application in network development
  • Performs independent schedule risk assessments and mitigation planning including resolution of labor and material shortages, backlogs and other potential schedule interruptions
  • Support the Business Development effort by leading the development and submittal of an Integrated Master Schedule for key proposals
  • Develops/maintains Earned Value Management System/metrics, in conjunction with Program Cost Controls and CAMs, to provide monthly status
 
Position Requirements

Job Specifications

Basic Qualifications - Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent team player.

- MS Office experience.

- MS Project experience, including Integrated Cost/Schedule Management.

- Basic Qualifications Expertise with Critical Path Methodology

- Working Knowledge of ANSI/EIA - 748 (EVMS Guidelines)

- Fundamental knowledge of business principles.

- College Degree in Business or Technical area

Desired skills

- IMP Development

- Proposal Experience

- Experience with DCMA COE Audits

Typically requires seven or more years’ experience in project/program planning in a development and production environment.  Significant MS Project experience required. Demonstrated Critical Path Methodology knowledge and application.  Must have demonstrated advanced analytical skills in MS Project, PowerPoint and Excel so as to prepare status reports, metrics and presentations.  Possess the ability to identify risk and opportunity management processes, and implement effective improvements of control plans.  Experience with Deltek/Costpoint a plus. Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills required. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work well in a team environment.
