Description

BETAH Associates is a professional services firm seeking a Senior Health Communications to serve on management team of a federal government contract addressing pregnancy and maternal health. The Health Communications Specialist will serve as a health communications expert responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of major, complex public health communication and marketing programs and campaigns addressing maternal health among women of color. The ideal candidate will have experience with major national health information campaigns encompassing formative research, audience segmentation, materials development, partnerships, and social, traditional, and earned media. PMP certification desired; experience with behavior change and/or pregnant persons and their providers a plus. Bachelor’s degree plus 8-10 years’ experience required, master’s degree preferred. This full-time remote position may require periodic in-person meetings in Rockville, Maryland.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support communications strategy and message development.
  • Support the development of and execute effective and integrated communication plans, including strategies and tactics across all channels, and leveraging all communication opportunities.
  • Develop clear messaging and channels for different stakeholders.
  • Manage, develop, and maintain an editorial calendar and other key strategic tools, as requested, to implement, evaluate, and evolve internal communications.
  • Manage communication projects, including tracking, reporting status, project budgets, and measurement of tactics.
  • Write, edit and clear content as well as manage information dissemination about programs and activities through internal and external communication channels, including institute and agency newsletters, articles, webcasts, presentations, blog posts, websites, talking points, social media, and video. Provide regular content for digital and social media platforms.
  • Engage in regular professional development, research and trend monitoring.
  • Identify appropriate materials and deliver information requested by organizations and individuals.
  • Identify outside resources and materials to compile and produce a resource list of tools, trainings, and resources available for client specific initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of training best practices by surveying latest research and publications, etc.
  • Collect and input data used to produce reports for key stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates on trends and training delivery.
  • Plan and coordinate virtual and in-person trainings at the direction of the client.
  • Provide administrative and clerical functions as needed.
 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Experience supporting government-related communications projects to include public health, health equity, and education.
  • Knowledge of maternal health issues especially among women of color.
  • Experience supporting government public health agencies ( HHS, CDC, NIH, FDA).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communications skills.
  • Digital communications skills, experience leading social media planning, engagement, and management.
  • Project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to build and support strategic partnerships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in M.S. Office Suite products (M.S. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Communications, Journalism, or relevant discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience with communications, marketing, program development, client engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing culturally competent health communication product, messages and tools for at-risk populations.
  • Consulting/contracting experience supporting a public health government agency (CDC, NIH, FDA, HRSA)
  • Ideal candidates will possess specific public health knowledge of maternal child health among women of color and the disproportionate morbidity and mortality rates they experience.
