Medical Coding Office Manager - 4115

Position Summary:

Oversees the day to day operation of the inpatient and outpatient medical coding service and activities for Sells Hospital and three Health Centers. Incumbent plans, coordinates, monitors and evaluates the work activities within the Medical Coding Office. Incumbent ensures that current coding policies, procedures and processes are in place to achieve medical coding standards. Sets goals and objectives for the Medical Coding Office that maintain compliance with internal controls for coding.

Scope of Work:

This position is located within the Tohono O’odham Nation Health Care (TONHC) Health Information Management Services (HIMS) on the San Xavier Health Center compound. Works under the general supervision of the Sells Hospital HIMS Director. Incumbent resolves problems according to established coding practices, guidelines, and compliance rules and standards. Work affects the accuracy and reliability of patient medical records, which in turn affect the quality and safety of patient care rendered.

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience in medical coding which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • Three (3) years of medical coding experience.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain certification as a Certified Coder from the American Academy of Professional (AAPC) Coders or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  • Must type 40 WPM.
  • Upon recommendation for hire a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State or U.S. Territory driver’s license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • Must submit a 39-month driving record with the employment application.
  • Must meet the Tohono O’odham Nation tribal employer’s insurance requirements to receive a driver’s permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department’s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O’odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
