JOB SUMMARY

The Component Engineer sources, selects, and qualifies components. Investigates alternate component technologies or manufacturers for cost and reliability. Acts as technical interface between component manufacturers and development engineers, determining new and alternate sources. Develops guidelines on vendor selection. Evaluates supplier part change notification (PCN) for actions required. Maintains component data in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Enter new (or update existing) COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf), BTP (Built-To-Print), or production material components into the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) database for final review by senior Component Engineers.
  • Provide technical support to New Product Introduction (NPI) and Product Support Engineering teams upon request. Assist in the resolution or escalation of component-related issues and communicate proactively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Participate in Component Engineering team support to Engineering and Supply Chain for component obsolescence, end-of-life, and availability issues.
  • Provide support, under the direction of a senior Component Engineer, for company-led strategic initiatives.
  • Provide and control modification planning of all configurations affected by modifications.
  • Support Engineering and SCM with Obsolescence and Last-time-buy situations, via Product Change Notice process
  • Generate Omnify reports and upload/download results to Life-cycle management tools (currently IHS).
  • Process Part Entry and updates as necessary and per established guidelines.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) field, or suitable combination of work experience and education.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Demonstrates awareness (typically <1 year of direct experience in the essential functions of the position)
    • Familiarity with electrical engineering principles and common electronic components. 
    • Strong skills with Microsoft Excel. 
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrates familiarity (typically 2+ years of direct experience in the essential functions of the position)
    • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint desirable.
    • Familiarity with materials science or electronics manufacturing processes desirable.
    • Familiarity with Lean and / or Six Sigma concepts desirable.

  • Must be a US Person (under ITAR rules) to be eligible.
