Summary

Astronics- LSI- NY is looking for a CNC programmer to join our team. A successful candidate will Utilize Mastercam, CNC programming software, plan numerical control program to control contour path, machine metal and plastic parts for use on CNC milling machines.

Essential duties and responsibilities

This job description does not imply that these are the only duties performed. Employees occupying this position will be required to follow any other related instructions and to perform any other job related duties requested by their supervisor. Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of parts to determine dimension and configuration of cuts

Selecting cutting tools, setting machine speeds and feed rates

Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths

Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine the part

Writes instruction sheets and tooling lists to guide setup and operation of machine

Observes operation of machine on trial run to evaluate programmed instructions

Contacts tooling vendors and researches specialty tooling for new programs

Designs and manufactures tooling and fixtures for programs

This position may require knowledge of SOX / 404 internal audit controls and related documentation

 

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

3-5 years of using Mastercam level 3 programming skills (3-D programming)

5 years of CNC milling machining experience

Able to read, understand and use drawings/ blueprints

Able to read measuring tools (micrometers, calipers etc.)

High School Diploma or GED

Strong computer skills including Microsoft office/ Mastercam X, Autocad or other drafting software

Solid understanding of shop math

High speed machining techniques

Simple fixturing/ fast set up techniques

Small batch size, syncronus / pull system experience

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Does not have any supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions within the organization.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos. 

Mathematical Skills

Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement, common fractions and decimals.

Strong background in machine math

Fractions, decimals and conversions

Trigonometry

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Possess the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands *

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and or arms to pull handles and push buttons and reach objects. Requirements may also include climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
