The Applications Engineer develops and maintains quality hardware and software test solutions for the transportation markets of Astronics Test Systems.

The Senior Engineer must have a broad knowledge of test and electronic principles in both the analog and digital disciplines. Strong team-oriented work habits with the ability to manage fast paced and project driven tasks are necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop test strategies from customer specifications, schematics and documentation.
  • Ability to deal with complex single or grouped tasks.
  • Works with customers and engineering team in the preparation of designs, specifications, plans, estimates for projects
  • Enforce Astronics Test Systems. and Engineering Department policies and procedures.
  • Complies with and enforces Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) preventive procedures.
  • Prepares engineering documents, including board evaluations, time estimates, and special equipment requirements.
  • Interface Test Adapter electrical design
  • Delivers, installs, and trains, customers on completed programs
  • Mentors other engineers in test methods
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Must have an in-depth understanding of circuit theory.
  • Must have excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Multi-discipline understanding of digital, analog, microprocessor, motor controllers and power electronics.
  • Leadership and presentation experience.
  • Proven Systematic approach to design or Test
  • Understanding of CMMI documentation requirements such as SRS, SDD, SFD a definite plus.
  • Experience with high-speed digital input and output test tools for the emulation and capture of digital waveforms. CPU based board testing a definite plus.
  • JTAG boundary scan testing experience.
  • The ability to occasionally travel to support projects and off-site engineering team.
  • Proficient in National Instruments LabVIEW or LabWindows CVI and TestStand programming environments.
  • Experience with PXI instrumentation such as digitizers, arbitrary waveform generators, scopes, switch matrices, digital multi-meters etc. National Instruments PXI hardware is preferred.
  • Familiar with interface test adapter (ITA) design and implementation.
  • Experience with power electronics a plus
  • Familiar with design of PCBs.

Education/Experience:

BSEE or Computer Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of experience in an Engineering role engaged in the functional testing or Design of boards and assemblies. Established capability to understand digital and analog circuits.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.  Must speak English.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Microsoft Office Suite

Certificates and Licenses:

Has Certified Labview Associate Developer and working toward Certified Labview Developer
