Researcher, Cultural Equity and Inclusion Project 

Description

The Academy’s Film Archive is seeking a Researcher to assist the Cataloging and Public Access departments on the Cultural Equity and Inclusion Project. The Cultural Equity and Inclusion Project is part of the Archive’s efforts to help identify and uncover the social, gender, ethnic, accessibility, and cultural gaps of more than 100 years of film preservation and collecting, helping to foster a more inclusive American film history from multiple perspectives.

This is a temporary part-time position. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify films made by and about people with disabilities within American cinema culture.
  • Identify relevant filmmakers and content, compiling findings within the Archive’s database.
  • Conduct independent research within secondary sources, including books, articles, and internet resources.
  • Produce short writing compositions, for both internal and external use.
 
Position Requirements
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Disability Studies, Library Science and/or Cinema and Media Studies preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and a vested interest in the study of disability and inclusion.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel and relational databases.
  • Ability to work independently and remain working on a computer for extended periods of time.

This position is part of the Ruderman Family Foundation’s programming support for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to promote inclusion and authentic representation in the film industry.
