Summary:

Responsible for leading, training, managing and developing the engineering capabilities and infrastructure needed to exceed customer expectations in schedule, service and quality of aircraft certification and installation engineering related deliverables.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties as assigned.

  • Allocates engineering resources and prioritizes engineering tasks in order to facilitate the on-time delivery of project deliverables and milestones.
  • Leads, supervises and provides daily guidance to the engineering team. Acts as the technical lead/facilitator for all engineering-related problems.
  • Acts as the first point of contact with customers on all elevated engineering problems.
  • Works with Senior Director, Program Management and Supply Chain Manager to support manufacturing and sourcing of piece-parts, assemblies, hardware, etc. as well as allocates engineering resources to support operational activities and troubleshoot prototype-manufacturing problems.
  • Responsible for developing and extending internal and external engineering capabilities to meet business needs.
  • Actively assists in solving engineering-related problems with customers and communicating value-added capability of the engineering team.
  • Responsible for procedures and systems that ensure the quality and integrity of engineering deliverables.
  • Maintain regular and consistent communication with the Project Engineering Manager, the Design Manager, the Certification Manager and Program Management Organizations to ensure the deliverable and schedule handoffs between each organization are efficiently executed.
  • Responsible for implementing new processes / documentations to be compliant to all Quality Department requirements.
  • This position may require knowledge of SOX / 404 internal audit controls and related documentation.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee aircraft certification and installation engineering personnel, developmental and organizational initiatives as a key member of the senior engineering staff.
  • Sets expectations and ensures accountability for engineers as a group and as individuals.
  • Identifies performance issues, addresses them with employees, and communicates said issues to Human Resources. Develops and implements performance improvement plans.
  • Analyzes current personnel and technology resources, identifies needs in both, and works with Human Resources and Finance to develop additional capabilities when needed.
  • Responsible for setting and maintaining expectations with employees that guarantee results commensurate with the guidelines set by the CTO.
  • Responsible for the training of new engineers from both a skill set and experienced-based perspective. Works with employees to create short and long-term career development plans.
  • Administers personnel functions including recruiting, hiring, review and approval of job descriptions, selection and placement of personnel, performance reviews and evaluations, and compensation planning.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, or in a related technical and/or equivalent field.
  • Five-plus years of experience in the aviation/aerospace industry.
  • Three-plus years of management experience.
  • Familiarity and/or experience working with 2D and 3D CAD software, drafting standards, and tolerances.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with design and manufacturing processes of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with avionics systems and structural and damage tolerance analyses.

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering Management.
  • Seven-plus years of experience in the aviation/aerospace industry.
  • Five-plus years of management experience.
