Description

The Job Development Specialist is responsible for the provision of job development, coaching, job training, follow along, and advocacy support to persons interested in pursuing community employment and currently employed in competitive community-based employment. The incumbent will work closely with all members of the employment training team, Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, Desert Regional Center, and community employers to support each person towards the achievement of their goals, in the setting of their choice. Establish, nurture, and maintain professional relationships with area businesses to introduce OV individuals to potential employment opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for networking and maintaining professional positive relationships with community referral sources and area businesses to expand existing lines of business, as well as to cultivate new lines of business to create employment opportunities for individuals who desire competitive community-based employment.
  2. Responsible to participate in the intake process including the initial pre-screening determination of the individuals’ personal goals, support systems, and potential abilities, the development of a vocational team plan that supports their short-term and long-term career goals, and the communication, coordination, and coaching to all members/employees of the employment training team.
  3. Travels to job sites to provide job coaching to individuals. Works with individuals, in their places of employment, to provide guidance, feedback, and insight as to how job functions might be completed in a more effective and efficient manner to meet the employer’s expectations.
  4. Works with individuals to expand and enhance their job readiness in preparation for more lucrative employment within the Agency or employment in a “real-world” setting. This is to include assistance with résumé preparation; assistance with the completion of job applications; job interview training; attending job interviews (when appropriate) with individuals and supporting individuals at New Employee Orientation.
  5. Prepares all necessary documentation including, but not limited to, departmental reports; interdisciplinary (ID) notes; incident reports; job coach/job development weekly and monthly reports; mileage reimbursement requests; BVR and DRC billing; and submits within required timeframes.
  6. Compliance with all Federal and State regulations and company policies and procedures; and assists with coordination relative to all governing bodies (e.g. Adult Protective Services, local law enforcement, etc.).
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Computer knowledge required including, but not limited to, Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to resolve multiple complex issues simultaneously while remaining calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines
  • Must possess initiative and work well with others in a team-oriented environment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: Minimum one (1) year work experience with case management, assessment and analysis, preferably in behavioral health and/or with intellectual disabilities.
  • Required: ACRE Customized Employment or Equivalent certification.
  • Required: Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required: A valid Nevada Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and examine documents, records and files.
