Under the direction of the Assistant Store Manager the Retail Associate will be responsible several functions. When cashiering, all daily cash transactions, documentation and administration of customer coupons and will exhibit and provide a welcome and warm response to customers in the store and over the telephone. When processing, timely receiving, sorting, tagging and placement of incoming merchandise to the Retail Store.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Reinforce and positively engage in Opportunity Village’s organizational culture supporting choice and creativity of clients and of staff.
  2. Process all merchandise efficiently and properly following the standards and quotas of Opportunity Village.
    • Processing of gently used donations.
    • Sort and process clothing, housewares electronics etc.
  3. Maintain cleanliness of the store including display floor, restrooms, breakroom, sorting area, register area, fitting rooms and entryway.
    • Sweep, mops floor, vacuum carpets, washes windows and walls as needed.
    • Clean desks, tables and countertops, empty/clean waste receptacles, clean and disinfect restrooms; replenishes and maintains restroom supplies.
  4. Operate cash register to complete sales transactions.
  5. Bag items and redeems promotional coupons.
  6. Record register totals and balances cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
  7. Review price sheets taking note of price changes and sale items.
  8. Return fitting room articles to proper racks paying attention to correct size and color sequence.
  9. Answer telephone in an efficient and friendly manner, uses PA system as required.
  10. Assist with pricing and stocking of items.
  11. Assist those with walk-in donations and customer carry outs.
  12. Rotate assignments as directed by the Manager/Supervisor, learning functions of the processing system.
  13. Recover sales floor.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISEORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Retail Associate has no supervisory responsibilities.

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Ability to respond and work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Must encompass professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative.
  • Computer literate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Prior work experience in retail or role.
  • Preferred: Prior experience working or serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • Ability to tolerate stress in customer service confrontation and conduct tasks and successfully perform under critical deadlines.
