Summary

Responsible for working with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Configuration Management, Quality and Production teams to ensure the highest quality product, with easily manufactured designs, and efficient manufacturing processes. Follow design through the product life cycle. Help in the development of metrics reporting and development in order to maintain manufacturing facility efficiency. Along with Engineering, develop and design fixtures to increase efficiencies. This is a hands-on positions requiring the ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and ability to trouble shoot point to point wiring. Contract Manufacturing experience preferred. Wire harness and coax cable assembly experience preferred. Working knowledge of Machined and Sheet Metal products preferred. Working knowledge of Aero Space, Medical and Automotive quality standards preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The essential duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties as assigned.
  • Work with Continual Improvement Department to create a visual workspace environment on the production floor to ensure clear communication of priorities.
  • Work with Engineering to create and maintain visual work instructions to ensure clear assembly steps to assemblers, quality product, and ease of manufacturability.
  • Work with Continual Improvement Department to create live metrics to drive manufacturing efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering throughout the design process to ensure standardization of processes and assembly specifications (torque values).
  • Assure cost effective designs by finding lower cost alternatives to parts and by working with vendors to establish volume discounts.
  • Confer with Supply Chain and Supplier Quality Engineering to determine best sources for parts and services required by engineering.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and vendors to understand limits and capabilities that may drive cost effective design.
  • Providing engineering support for the production department and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve engineering and quality issues.
  • Provide support and input into production floor layout, equipment, and improvements.
  • Ensure required tooling is available on the production floor.

 

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Manufacturing Engineering preferred. Degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or in a related technical and/or equivalent field acceptable.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical design and manufacturing for electrical harnesses and coaxial cable. Sheet metal and machined component experience a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the Aviation/Aerospace or similar highly regulated industry.
  • Experience with Intuitive or Epicor ERP software.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a job shop contract manufacturing environment in an engineering capacity.
  • 3+ years managerial experience.
  • Hands on experience in a role of manufacturing and engineering liaison.
