Senior Accountant 

Description

PURPOSE.

This Senior Accountant is a key member of the accounting group and will use their experience to provide leadership and guidance to the other accountants within the department. The Senior Accountant works under general direction to perform more complex accounting activities and ensures the accurate reporting of financial information for internal and external users.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES.

  • Review and prepare monthly journal entries and complete the month-end close process.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations to supporting documentation (investigating and resolving any questionable items).
  • Prepare monthly written variance analysis.
  • Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis to ensure they are recorded appropriately.
  • Prepare various schedules for SEC reporting team, external quarterly reviews, external annual audit, and internal auditors.
  • Research and resolve various accounting issues.
  • Assist other groups within the company and management with projects, tasks, and other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to the Company’s policies and internal controls while promoting and exhibiting intellectual honesty.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements.

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation, along with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to be a positive representative of USA Truck both internally and externally.
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 2 – 3 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably including work directly related to monthly accounting closes.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Public accounting experience.

  • This position will be required to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, and, with or without reasonable accommodation is required to:
  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently operate a computer for extended periods of time and regularly operate other office productivity machines.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend stairs and move up to 20 pounds of office objects.
  • Frequently communicate with peers, supervisors, third parties, and other employees to exchange accurate information and answer questions.
  • Occasionally attend meetings in buildings outside corporate office and at off-site locations with various internal conditions, and requiring travel in various external conditions.
  • Travel domestically as necessary.
