LIBRARY MANAGER

OVERVIEW: This position is full-time with primary duties of oversight for the library and maintenance of databases for the Library as well as the computer lab. The person in this position must be able to provide academic and computer support and guidance for community members, preschool through adults. The work schedule may occasionally include evening and weekend hours.

WORK LOCATION: Lower Elwha Education Building

SUPERVISED BY: Education Director

POSITION STATUS: Full-time, 40 hours per week

SALARY LEVEL: $18.00 hourly

WORK SCHEDULE: Currently M-F 8-4:30 p.m. w/ possible evening work

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

  • Maintain a consistent schedule for the library and computer lab.
  • Must have library experience and knowledge of librarian duties.
  • Assure the Library/Computer Lab is open, clean, and ready for users as scheduled.
  • Maintain the physical library: daily shelving, dusting, and straightening of bookcases, rearrange and label as necessary to accommodate new materials.
  • Maintain library-related knowledge, skills and abilities required: use of catalog to look up items, familiarity with what materials are in the collection, cataloging books and other items that come into the collection, and tracking overdue items.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, youth, staff and volunteers in the Education Building.
  • Clearly and positively communicate with customers to assure adherence to computer usage rules.
  • Assist community with basic computer skills; be able to teach courses to the community as directed.
  • Maintain Resource Mate and DBHR databases for attendance and participation meeting individual requirements of those programs.
  • Learn Resource Mate the library's Program. Be able to troubleshoot problems and interface with Tribal IT Department and the program vendor; use the program to obtain records from Library of Congress, use World Cat and other library catalogs to build records by analogy; know and use Dewey lists; and use online resources such as state paid databases available from public, tribal and other libraries.
  • Be involved and aware of all current and planned activities taking place in the Library/Computer Lab space.
  • Identify opportunities and submit ideas for outreach and publicity for the Library & Computer Lab that include, but are not limited to brochure production, monthly newsletter submission, flier production, tribal website and other forms of communication with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe's community.
  • Facilitate a booth or table at appropriate tribal events.
  • Identify library needs, acquire and weed through materials and determine the removal of books from our collection (worn, out of date, irrelevant, etc.).
  • In collaboration with Education Director, revise Computer Lab/Library policies as necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Provide clerical and technical support to the Education Department.
  • Maintain accurate ADP timesheet for the Education Director and submit by due dates.
  • Work with our After School Drop-In students with homework, computer lab assistance and/or behavior management.
  • Help to prepare USDA snack daily for Steven's After School Program and the After School Drop-In Program located in the library.
  • Obtain training of the USDA snack standards.
  • Order supplies, books and other library subscriptions as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY POSITION:

  • Library knowledge and training a must, but preferably a librarian by trade.
  • Proficient computer skills that minimally include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
  • Interest in continual learning and acquirement of new skills.
  • Minimum of an AA Degree with a preference of a BA or higher.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • First Aid and CPR required or obtained within 60 days of hire. Must keep current.
  • Food Handler’s Permit/Card acquired within 30 days of hire.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Communication skills: both verbal and written are required.
  • No prior convictions of child-related offenses.
  • Employment contingent on passing the background check conducted prior to employment date.
  • Must be able to comply with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Workplace policies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Moderate lifting, 15-40 pounds, moderate carrying over 10 pounds and light carrying under 10 pounds, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Frequent bending (putting away and straightening books on lower shelves). Standing for periods while helping patrons on the computer.

OTHER DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Share the responsibility of maintaining a safe, healthy and attractive learning environment.
  • Work closely with Education Building staff in sharing concerns and implementing plans to meet identified needs of patrons.
  • Pre-Employment drug testing to be administered prior to employment
