The Position:

The Family Support Services Fatherhood Parent Educator/Family Relationships Educator will provide support and education to fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, and other male parental figures to reduce stressors in the home, guide them in overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency, as well as strengthen their parenting skills and involvement in their children's lives. Through screening and assessment, education, case management, economic stability services, and service linkage, the Family Relationship Educator will identify risks, promote strengths, and equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to establish healthy family relationships leading towards greater family strength and stability. This position requires working some evenings and/or weekends.

Working with those impacted by trauma can be fulfilling and meaningful, yet simultaneously exhausting and heart-rending. FSA strives to be a trauma-informed and resilience-oriented organization, actively identifying and employing methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for both themselves and others.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Facilitate classes, workshops, and home visitation, focusing on parenting skills and utilizing an evidence-based curriculum for fathers and other male parental figures.
    • Conduct outreach, recruitment, and engagement for fathers and male parental figures to participate in services.
    • Utilize assessment skills and screening tools to triage participants and determine appropriate services while working in collaboration with colleagues in providing a continuum of care.
    • Coordinate classes with co-facilitator and community partners in an effort to best accommodate participants' needs.
    • Participate in activities to evaluate the program's effectiveness.
    • Complete pre-program evaluation to ensure the curriculum is tailored to the needs and identified risks of participants.
    • Support participants in developing positive parenting skills through the use of effective communication and understanding of developmental milestones.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Standards:

    • Bachelor’s required in sociology, social work, child development, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
    • Comfortable facilitating community workshops and classes with participants of all ages and backgrounds.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the following topics: parent education, developmental milestones, effective communication, overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency, conflict management, and stress management.
    • Familiarity with community resources and knowledge of family stability resources.
    • Computer and Internet literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office; can adapt to using various types of software.
    • Valid automobile insurance and a valid California Driver License are required.
    • Reliable transportation is necessary to travel throughout Santa Barbara County.

 

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • This position is has both part-time and full-time opportunities! We are looking for someone who can work at least 10 hours per week. Flexible schedules are available with work hours from 10-40 hours per week. Please indicate in your application how many hours you’re available to work.
  • Benefits are offered for positions working at least 30 hours per week, and include: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Pro-rated vacation, holiday and sick leave also offered.
  • Pay is dependent on education and experience.
