Compensation and Benefits $20.19 to $21.63 hourly range and competitive benefit package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, paid holidays, and paid time off.  

Job Summary

The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN) Division represents a collaborative of ten community colleges and seven workforce development boards in southeast Michigan and the capital area. The WIN workforce collaborative has been recognized as one of the top performers in the nation on large, multi-year workforce training grants. WIN recently received several new multi-year federal grants and will hire an Economic Research Analyst that is enthusiastic about working with community college and Michigan Works! as a lead analyst for workforce-related research content communication, specialized data requests, and other projects related to Michigan’s economy, the workforce development system, higher education, and other assigned duties. This is a remote/virtual work position. Preference will be given to qualified Michigan applicants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages data requests from partners
  • Reviews, researches, verifies, and analyzes institutional research and labor market data sources for reports and studies
  • Verifies and validates data sources and labor market data information for special studies
  • Leads the quarterly production of WIN’s labor market reports
  • Assists the Director of Research and Regional Initiatives with the preparation and execution of quarterly learning network meetings and training events
  • Presents labor market information and analysis to a variety of audiences in both written and verbal forms through reports, blog posts, social media content, presentations, etc.
  • Manages select research projects on specific labor force issues and topics
  • Explores advanced data management, visualization, and automation techniques to enhance the data and research team’s efficiency and effectiveness when conducting research, writing reports, pulling data, etc.
  • Assists in grant writing and business development initiatives on behalf of WIN
  • Participates in team meetings and strategy sessions
  • Assists with, and sometimes leads, training WIN’s partners and staff on data sources and appropriate analysis methods
  • Works closely with WIN’s leadership team to develop new data tools and products for WIN partners and clients
  • Remains current with the understanding of data tools and data resources and serve as a resource for the entire the WIN team
  • Other tasks as assigned
Position Requirements


All SEMCA team members are expected to be technically competent and committed to continuous development of their skills. The following skills, knowledge and education or certifications are specifically required for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree or extensive research and data project experience preferred)
  • Three to six years of experience in labor market data analysis, research, and project management
  • Experience accessing, navigating, and using institutional research resources is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong working knowledge and usage of government data sites
  • High quality written communication skills
  • Economic intuition and reasoning skills
  • Strong understanding of labor’s role in the economy
  • Understanding of Michigan’s workforce system
  • Reliable transportation to attend meetings in the metro-Detroit area (weekly)
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment, taking on roles and responsibilities as needs and opportunities arise
  • Ability to work both independently and with a high degree of dependability and quality
  • Evidence of creative thinking, supporting problem resolution, and ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Strong desire to learn and innovate
  • Multi-tasking skills, self-motivated

Physical Demands

Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials on an LCD screen and smartphone, hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person and over the telephone.  These requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individual requiring and requesting and/or needing additional accommodations.
