Purpose of Your Job Position:
Under the general supervision of the Kitchen Manager/Cook, the Kitchen Assistant assists in preparing meals according to the posted menus and directives by the Cook and performs general functions for the upkeep and maintenance of the kitchen.

Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that all food is properly cooked, held, stored for optimal quality safety and palatability according to the HACCP standards at all times.
Maintain cooking area and equipment in a clean organized and sanitary manner according to Department of Health Standards at all times.
Prepare various salad, dessert and beverage items for meals and special events according to menu, specified serving size and Managers directions.
Pull food according to menu specifications and utilize leftovers within three (3) days to avoid spoilage.
Adjust recipes for volume and substitute ingredients as necessary.
Record all refrigeration temperatures at start of a.m. shift and close of p.m. shift and food temperatures.
Cleaning of all equipment and storage areas related to food preparation area according to established procedures and Serve Safe guidelines.
Reports to Kitchen Manager maintenance requisitions for all items in need of repair before the end of the shift.
Ensure food is completely ready to serve at established meal times.
Other responsibilities in keeping with the training of individual staff members may be assigned at the discretion of the Manager.
Garnish all prepared food items.
Answer phone inquiries from resident care areas.
Adhere to professional dress code that reflects the mission of Santa Teresita with excellent grooming and appearance.
Follow all guidelines in the handbook and policies, as well as, all safety procedures established by Santa Teresita
Attend all in-services, meetings and other training required by this position
Working Conditions
Unless otherwise agreed upon hire, staff members must generally be available to work weekends and holidays.
Stands and walks in the kitchen for extended periods of time.
Is subject to frequent interruptions while performing duties.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.
Subject to extreme temperatures ranging from 0°F – 200°F.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Must be able to stand in one place for extended period of time.
Must be able to be on feet, either standing or moving about, for extended periods of time.
Must be able to safely lift at least 25 lbs. individually and 50 lbs. In partnered lifting.
Comfortably use repetitive movements of fingers, hands and arms.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
