Description

Job Summary
The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) Michigan Works! Young Professionals Program (SYPP) targets Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) – eligible youth, ages 18-24 residing in Wayne County (excluding Detroit) and Monroe County with opportunities to increase and strengthen skills to obtain employment. SYPP prepares youth for the world of work with tuition-free online certificate training in high growth, high wage industries including Construction, Healthcare, Information Technology, and Manufacturing, and includes customer service and technical training. Additionally, participants attend a series of six work-readiness workshops and complete a six-week Paid Work Experience (PWE).  


The SEMCA Young Professionals Program (SYPP) Coordinator oversees all aspects of the program, and contributes to the overall design and development, implementation, and data collection. This includes organizing work-readiness workshops and support for outreach and recruitment of participants, employers and training providers, and tracking outcomes to ensure performance metrics are achieved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create a culture that is welcoming and engaging to youth participants.
  • Collaborate with the Business Service Representative Team and Michigan Works! American Job Center (AJC) Youth staff to identify and engage employers on career paths for PWE participants.
  • Work with Michigan Works! AJC staff to develop and implement a recruitment and retention plan to meet target expectation enrollment and program completion for approximately 30 eligible youth.
  • Create, distribute, and coordinate recruitment processes and materials, with assistance from the Director of Communications, including digital media flyers, social media and other SYPP information.
  • Ensure program requirements and outcomes are met.
  • Facilitate meetings with program stakeholders, including employers, educators, SEMCA staff, and community partners.
  • Provide regular information and updates to SEMCA staff, as requested.
  • Develop program operations processes for approval by Youth Workforce Programs Manager.
  • Organize quarterly on-line training sessions to familiarize educators and employers with SYPP, the scope, timeline, deadlines, applications processes, and provide technical support.
  • Maintain existing and build new relationships with community leaders, school districts, post-secondary training partners, colleges and universities, local businesses, and community-based organizations in the region.
  • Complete formative and summative evaluations of the SYPP event and processes.
