Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote)

Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000 depending on experience, certifications, and skillset.

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Preferred) - Remote available

Status: Salaried, Exempt 

Job Summary 

The Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote) is responsible for the daily account management, resource allocation and effectiveness and the overall service delivery of eCatalyst services to clients. The Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote) is responsible for meeting all metrics, managing eCatalyst and outsourced staff, and delivering exceptional services consistent with our brand promise.   

The Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote) will work with the Director of Human Resources to hire, manage, and when necessary, provide corrective action to employees. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote) is responsible for meeting company goals, client goals, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). 

The Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote) will establish and maintain client accounts and identify staffing resources to fulfill the scope of work. This includes collaborating with the Director of Auditing to ensure the delivery of quality coding. Additionally, this would require the Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote) to contribute to the education and training initiatives for their respective accounts. 

The Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote) will routinely meet with clients to build productive working relationships and assure client needs are understood and met. 

The Senior Director of Medical Coding (Remote) works with eCatalyst Healthcare Solutions leadership team to set company direction, establish policies, and assure that company goals are communicated and met. 

Essential Functions 

  •  Identify and document client needs and successfully onboard staff to perform the required scope of work.  
  • Meet or exceed the client’s Service Level Agreement (SLA) metrics and KPIs. 
  • Hold regularly scheduled meetings with clients to understand and communicate goals, process changes and staffing issues.  
  • Identify process improvements that add value to client services.   
  • Work with client leadership to identify additional services eCatalyst could perform to assist the client in meeting their overall goals.  
  • Provide expert advice/leadership regarding coding guidelines, payer policies, OIG work-plans and industry trends.  
  • Identify staffing resources, skill levels, certifications and experience required to successfully achieve client goals, SLA’s and KPI’s.  
  • Work with Human Resources to identify the best-fit employees for specific assignments. 
  • Monitor productivity daily and work with staff to meet or exceed standards.  
  • Work with the auditing/training team to monitor and improve coding quality to meet or exceed SLA’s and KPIs.  
  • Review and approve timecards per established guidelines.  
  • Communicate performance expectations to staff and routinely provide performance feedback including 1:1 meetings and formal evaluations. 
  • Meet KPIs related to team member productivity, quality, and staff satisfaction/retention.    
  • Maintain current expert knowledge regarding coding guidelines, payer policies, OIG work-plans and industry trends.   
  • Develop and deliver presentations on best practice, industry change, and operational improvements for clients and industry groups.  
  • Participate in social media, representing eCatalyst’s expertise and influence.  
  • Meet goals and KPI’s related to client retention and internal sales.    
  • Identify internal sales opportunities and immediately present to the COO for review. 
  • Participate in sales calls and demonstrations when required. 
  • Provide input to and review of proposals and responses to RFPs. 
  • Identify opportunities for product development or extension to increase the value of the company. 
  • Contribute to strategic planning through in-depth knowledge of client experience and market forces.  

 

Travel Required

  • Client or sales travel may be required outside of the immediate vicinity no more than 20% of the time.  
  • Travel to Company Headquarters, located in Phoenix, AZ for corporate meetings and other events, up to four times per year.  
 
Position Requirements

Required Education, Skills, and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, Health Services, or similar focus is required. 
  • Coding certifications for both facility and/or professional fee coding.  
  • 8+ years of progressive experience leading coding operations.  
  • 3+ years of contract coding services experience. 

 

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, Health Services, or similar focus is preferred.  
  • Experience working with offshore coding providers. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams). 
  • Demonstrated internal and external sales experience. 
  • Skilled in developing, writing and delivering articles, newsletters, podcasts and industry- focused presentations.
