JOB SUMMARY:

  • This position provides for the protection, safety and security of all persons, assets, and property and physical plant of Hancock Regional Hospital.
  • This individual actively engages in the detection of any activity adverse to health care environment and is responsible for investigating criminal activity while instructing others on prevention. In responding to maintenance type issues, the Security Manager notifies maintenance as well as documents the problems.
  • He/she enforces the hospital's security regulations, operating policies, and procedures and is responsible for reporting all violations of all federal, state, and municipal laws.
  • This individual performs in a primary public relations role for the hospital and assists in internal and external contacts regularly with major and minor concerns, as identified, and performs a pivotal role in emergencies.
  • This person also assists the Director of Building Services in the supervision of Security Officers as assigned.
  • He/she understands and exhibits the principals of service excellence, leads by example, and mentors others in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • The Security Manager understands the role of employee's individual position regarding HIPAA requirements and level of access to protected health information as defined in HIPAA hospital-wide policies.
  • The Security Manager may also be the Emergency Preparedness Manager.
  • He/she must create a security officer schedule that provides 24/7 security coverage for the hospital.
  • The Security Manager will also oversee the contract Valet Service provided at the hospital.
  • Develops and executes all necessary training as it relates to security and the wellbeing of the Hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Able to inform team, associates, visitors and/or patients on all maters pertaining to security.
  • Ability to establish working priorities for Associates and themselves.
  • Expected to have working knowledge of the NIMS and can lead during a disaster response; responsible for local emergency planning and works closely with District 5 Hospital Preparedness Group.
  • Ability to plan and implement emergency preparedness exercises for the hospital and off-site facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Emotional maturity and the ability to relate to many different people and situations.
  • The ability to work independently and supervise the security department efficiently.
  • Ability to work to standards set by applicable national, state and local building codes.
  • Ability to communicate with management staff throughout the hospital.
  • Ability to understand individual needs of associates.
  • Ability to see hospital as a whole and solve problems to the benefit of the total hospital system.
  • Ability to control labor costs through proper planning.
  • Ability to establish working priorities for associates and for yourself.
  • Ability to plan and implement emergency preparedness exercises for the hospital and off-site facilities.
  • Have a good background in materials, purchasing procedures, management policy and procedures.
  • Review and update policies and procedures as needed.

EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:

  • Manager is expected to have a working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and can lead during a disaster response.
  • Manager serves as the Bio-Terrorism Coordinator for the hospital system and attends monthly meetings and declared exercises of the District 5 Hospital Preparedness Group.
  • Manager coordinates meetings of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and is a liaison with the Local Emergency Manager.
  • Punctuality and attention to the requirements of these roles is essential to the success of the preparedness program.
  • Follow Patients First Behavioral Commitment, AIDET and customer service standards.
 
Position Requirements

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

ADDITIONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be a Certified Security Officer and/or had Police Department Training.

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent. Must have 2 years of supervisory management experience.
  • Associate’s Degree in a Business or Law Enforcement Field preferred. Mandatory Annual Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance.
  • Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and all education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
  • Identifies and actively pursues a planned program for professional growth through night classes, reading textbooks, consultations with others, facility learning experiences, etc., at least once yearly within scope of departmental systems; demonstrates a sincere interest in improving current level of skills and knowledge.
  • Certified Security Officer and/or Police Department Training, OSHA Certified Associate Degree in a business or law enforcement field.
