The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor, the Custodial Lead will assist in overseeing the work of the custodial team to clean and maintain the museum to the highest standards. You will also be responsible for overseeing the preparation, set-up, staffing, and clean up for numerous events throughout the year.

You Will:

  • Assist with planning, scheduling, organizing, coordinating, inspecting, supervising, and evaluating the work of custodial and set-up services staff in the upkeep of the museum.
  • Serve as team leader in custodial and set-up services on assigned shift.
  • Assist with providing training to staff in the proper and efficient performance of custodial duties according to the training program implemented by the museum.
  • Assist with evaluating personnel.
  • Maintain and issue custodial supplies.
  • Inspect and evaluate the condition of the buildings, grounds, equipment, machinery, and sidewalks.
  • Make maintenance improvement recommendations to supervisor.
  • Undertake comprehensive and ongoing training for the custodial team.
  • Assist with coordinating set up and break down of tables, chairs, and linens for various meetings, programs, events, and other activities.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and respectful attitude with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, and visitors.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in conformance with the museum’s safety programs.

 

 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
  • 1+ years of custodial experience as a lead/supervisor or 3+ years of progressive leadership responsibility in the custodial trade.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safe and correct handling of cleaning supplies and methods used in the custodial trade.
  • Knowledge of supervision and training principles and practices is a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable Cal-OSHA and OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic and modern cleaning methods, including preserving floors, whiteboards, carpets, furniture, walls, fixtures, locker rooms, and restrooms.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Flexibility to work various outside hours including overtime, late nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work indoors and outdoors in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Work under adverse situations and conditions.
  • Work on ladders, lifts, and heights. 
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop/squat for extended periods of time.
