Description

This position supports the mission of the CAFB by providing operational support and logistical assistance for its the mobile feeding sites of the federal Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which provides free, nutritious meals to children who may not be able to attend summer camp or other programs where they would receive a lunch or dinner meal.

 
Position Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • The Bus Driver operates the Mobile Summer Food Bus to make food deliveries to designated areas and follows all DOT and Safety Rules / Regulations.
  • Bus Driver will work approximately 7 hours per day, M-F (we expect that the hours will be 2:00pm-7:30pm).
  • The Bus Driver monitors the physical and mechanical condition of the Bus to help maintain a safe and efficient vehicle.
  • Driver will maintain generator in working order
  • At the warehouse, the Bus Driver will help load, unload and clean the Bus, regularly.
  • At feeding sites, Driver will help unload and load items (tables, tents, menu sandwich and other items).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Department of Transportation’s standards for commercial driving.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals, including clients of the Capital Area Food Bank, either autonomously or in a team environment.
  • Ability to read a map, follow GPS or instructions while navigating to various locations within the Washington Metropolitan Area.
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a level of professionalism, promoting Capital Area Food Bank’s community spirit and mission.

Position Requirements: 

  • High School diploma.
  • Minimum 2 years of driving experience.
  • Possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License, (CDL B), air brake endorsement
  • Satisfactory safe driving record.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Drives in traffic, and throughout the community.
  • Warehouse and office environment.
