USAT Logistics Carrier Manager I - Extended Coverage 

Description

PURPOSE

This position has oversight to manage the sourcing and contractual agreements with carriers for managing the capacity to secure freight and service execution at a rate and level that meets or exceeds customer’s expectations while maximizing USAT Yields. The individual will have complete oversight, autonomy and authority to negotiate pricing and accept/decline business. The carrier manager must effectively build long-term strategic relationships with a variety of carriers to readily secure capacity as needed.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for carrier prospecting, management, negotiations and relations leading to a strong long-term strategic partnership.

  • Monitor and assess carrier portfolios, continually strengthening relationships with existing customers, and finding and developing new customers.

  • Leverage brokerage pricing techniques and tools, and market awareness and knowledge to effectively secure business while building the carrier portfolio.

  • Able to assess risk and guard against unforeseen risk to the company and recommend solutions and counsel others.

  • Strong working knowledge of a strategic carrier daily capacity and network.

  • Ability to learn brokerage pricing techniques and tools to effectively secure capacity at optimal rates.

  • Ability & willingness to support customer management duties as needed by the business.

  • Ability to deliver exceptional service through positive engagement and patience.

  • Ability to work in a team environment to continuously improve results.

  • Able to promote a culture of trust and safety.

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 0 – 1 year of supply chain, logistics, transportation or like experience.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Proficient in negotiating.

This position does not supervise others.

 

Working conditions.

This position will be required to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, and, with or without reasonable accommodation is required:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a minimum of 75% of the time,

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machines,

  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs,

  • Constantly positions self in work environment,

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with peers, supervisors, vendors and drivers to exchange accurate information and answer questions,

  • Must be able to detect objects at a distance,

  • On occasion will move up to 20 pounds of office objects,

  • Works in an indoor office environment but expected to attend meetings in adjacent buildings requiring travel in outdoor weather conditions.
