The Columbia Group (TCG), a technical services support company which has a successful 50-year history of providing the United States Military with acquisition, logistics management, engineering, design, fabrication, test and evaluation, information technology and financial management support services, is seeking a Senior Marine Engineer. The Senior Marine Engineer will under limited direct supervision, applies knowledge of naval architecture to perform complex naval engineering analyses and prepares typical naval engineering deliverables in support of the design/modification of ships, craft, and other floating structures. Prepares specifications. Develops and validates design and engineering requirements to ensure requirements are defined and met according to specifications. Participates in meetings with representatives from other engineering disciplines and customers on ship design issues.
Works directly with senior technical personnel and project managers in the planning and execution of technical activities on complex projects related to a system and technical product development. Employs existing guidelines and instructions, guidance from higher-level engineers, experience, and independent judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives. Assignments may require the development of improvements to current designs, techniques, and procedures.
Applies naval architectural knowledge in accordance with applicable regulatory body rules, regulations, and industry standards to develop analyses and products in one or more of the following technical areas:
- Design integration, coordinating inputs from various naval architectural and other engineering disciplines, such as marine engineering and structures, into balanced, closed solution designs to establish principal characteristics and design features such as length, beam, depth, draft, displacement, speed, and other performance parameters;
- Structural design, developing hull girder bending moments and structural configurations and scantlings in accordance with appropriate rules or design standards, development of superstructure, mast, and local support structure to withstand primary and secondary loads;
- General arrangements and configuration, developing requirements for area and volume, preparing overall ship arrangement concepts and drawings illustrating primary functional allocation of spaces within the ship considering location and adjacency constraints, performing special studies including access and line of sight analyses, assisting in detailed layouts of individual compartments such as living and berthing spaces, ship support spaces, storerooms, and shops.
