Position is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

SUMMARY: Under the limited direction of the Appraisal Review Senior Manager, the Senior Review Appraiser is responsible for engaging and reviewing external appraisals of various types of commercial property types (retail, retail land, hospitality, agricultural, etc.). The incumbent engages third party vendors to prepare appraisal reports on real property for various lending groups in connection with real estate and commercial related financial transactions. The incumbent is also responsible for verifying the quality and credibility of valuations written for the bank are essential in making loans that are both profitable and saleable. The Senior Review Appraiser reviews and analyzes appraisal reports for compliance with Arvest policies, federal and state regulations including FIRREA and USPAP as well as determining the reasonableness of the value conclusion. Assignments are moderate to complex in nature and the coordination of multi-property portfolio assignments is not unusual. Current experience in valuing and reviewing a variety of major property types is required, particularly with an emphasis on proficiency and experience with appraisal software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Perform high-level in-house evaluations and validations on commercial properties using appropriate valuation methods and document the conclusions in clearly written reports commensurate with the complexity of the property, in accordance with bank policy.
  2. Review appraisals and evaluations for report credibility, valuation accuracy and regulatory and bank policy compliance, ensuring that the appraisal contains sufficient information and analysis to support the institution’s decision to engage in the transaction. Ensure the review is well-documented and contains sufficient narrative to allow a proper audit trail for any actions taken and for the reader to understand how the reviewer arrived at material conclusions.
  3. Manage the appraisal engagement process for the bank’s highest exposure (large dollar, complex or unique properties that exhibit “challenging” characteristics, material problem loans, out-of-market properties, etc.) commercial real estate credits. Develop a full understanding of the request (including any unique characteristics of the property, etc.). Prior to circulating requests for bids, identifying which appraisers have the requisite education, expertise and competence to appraise the subject property and engage that qualified appraiser.
  4. Communicate regularly with lending staff and appraisers; assist with appraisal and evaluation related questions. Maintain a positive working relationship with lending staff and appraisers; address any corrections, revisions and/or resolve issues, as necessary.
  5. Provide a second sign-off with constructive feedback on other commercial appraisal reviews and internal evaluations performed by department personnel.
  6. Serve as a mentor by orienting and training associates; developing personal growth opportunities; developing, coordinating and educating fellow associates on systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards.
  7. Independently manage assigned workflow to ensure timely follow up and completion and update job tracking software throughout the work process.
  8. Assist with research requests from lending staff and Appraisal Department, as needed.
  9. Understand and comply with bank policy, laws, regulations, and the bank's BSA/AML Program, as applicable to your job duties. This includes but is not limited to; complete compliance training and adhere to internal procedures and controls; report any known violations of compliance policy, laws, or regulations and report any suspicious customer and/or account activity.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 5 years of production appraisal experience (commercial valuations) required.
  • 2 years of bank or other equivalent technical appraisal review experience required.
  • State certified general appraiser license or equivalent combination of technical education and work experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend appraisal reports required.
  • Expert level knowledge of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, FIRREA, federal and state appraisal regulations, Arvest Loan Policy, and Arvest Appraisal Policies and Procedures required.
  • Multi-state certified general appraiser license or equivalent combination of technical education and work experience required.
  • Appraisal designation by a nationally recognized appraisal association such as the Appraisal Institute, American Society of Appraisers, National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers or other similar organization is desirable.
  • Experience with local market valuations preferred.
  • Experience with online property, mapping, deed, and other research preferred.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and appraisal related software preferred.
