Your role in helping us shape the future:

U.S. News empowers everyone to thrive. In this VP of Corporate Communications position, you will be responsible for leading the company's integrated communications functions - including public relations, social media and internal communications - to help further our mission of helping people make the best decisions.

You will have the opportunity to leverage your strengths and skills to oversee the development, integration, execution and evolution of an innovative and strategic communications plan. Your plan will raise awareness of U.S. News and its content and product offerings with the media and influencers, grow our audience and cultivate the U.S. News voice and brand in the marketplace.

The ideal candidate for this position will be mission driven, innovative, use data to support goals for audience and revenue, have strong media ties, a proven record of driving earned media across markets and experience implementing social media strategies. The VP, who reports to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Content Officer, will work closely with the leadership team and regularly strategize with editorial, product, business intelligence, sales and marketing on the execution of effective external and internal communications and social strategies.

We're looking for someone who is highly creative, analytical and nimble with a growth mindset to:

  • Develop and lead a high performing, growth-focused communications team

  • Establish departmental and individual goals and metrics, and monitor performance and results for audience and revenue development

  • Gain a deep understanding of the company's content and product offerings

  • Manage communication support to help meet the company's revenue goals

  • Develop breakthrough ideas, new strategic partnerships and programs that will further the company's brand

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with external vendors for PR and social and other communication needs for the company

  • Direct and manage the communications budget

  • Develop and implement social media strategies for distributing content across platforms - including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube - designed to build audience engagement as well as leverage the platforms to drive qualified audience acquisition

  • Provide strategic direction for paid social for editorial and advertising initiatives across platforms as needed, and optimize to ensure ROI goals/KPIs are met

  • Stay abreast of the latest public relations and social media technologies and tools and identify areas for growth

  • Analyze data to inform strategic decisions and report findings to executive leadership

  • Master analytics tools to provide valuable page performance insights for partners and internal teams

  • Generate ongoing, opportunistic public relations outreach nationwide

  • Oversee the development and implementation of all media support materials (e.g., press kits, press releases, FAQs, bios, etc.) for all U.S. News verticals

  • Lead and support research projects and create materials to help internal teams better understand and act on audience trends

  • Craft, manage and optimize distribution campaigns that deliver quality audience from external social channels and distribution networks for branded content and other content-led advertising products

  • Create and implement internal/executive communications tailored to an engaged and involved employee population; effectively partner with peer departments to align messages and timing of content

  • Implement and evolve a strategic communications plan that will be an essential part of U.S. News' growth and future

 
Position Requirements

You should definitely have:

  • Minimum five years of experience in progressive senior leadership roles responsible for public relations, social media and corporate communications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience across PR, social media, digital, marketing/ audience development

  • Proven track record of planning and executing the company’s communications strategies and plans

  • Well versed with modern social and public relations strategies and practices and emerging platforms

  • Experience with providing strategic communications guidance to senior executives and key stakeholders

  • Ability to flourish in a fast-paced digital environment

  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to drive meaningful actions from large data sets

  • Experience using CPV/CPC/CPM-based business models and paid search

  • Knowledge and experience with PR and social tools, such as Crowdtangle, Naytev and Meltwater

  • Excellent managerial skills

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal and has strong emotional intelligence

  • A nimble mindset and ability to ensure a winning outcome

  • Avid consumer of media and passion for all things communications

It would be nice if you had:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or Social Sciences
