Accountant Supervisor 


Our Accountant Supervisor is organized and detail-oriented, serving as a leader of a team and responsible for leveraging knowledge and experience to ensure the successful execution of client deliverables for the group of Accountants. They’re responsible for understanding and ensuring accuracy in recorded financial transactions for charitable giving vehicles, philanthropic industry rules and regulations, and managing a team of accountants. A positive attitude enables them to build strong team relationships and work as a cross-functional, internal lead. The Accountant Supervisor will lead process improvement initiatives for key processes, help resolve complex issues, and assist in evaluating client program health and recommending tactics to improve the client experience. They will communicate company goals, quality control practices, and deadlines to team. They also facilitate ideas, feedback, and policies among management and team members.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review the work of and train Accountants, ensuring the accuracy of all distribution reports, in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices and policies and procedures, including reconciliations of investments, cash, valuations and earnings.
  • Supports team Director in managing a team and provides coverage when the Director is absent or out of office
  • Sets and administers team and individual goals for team members, communicates expectations, and identifies areas for training, skill assessments, and associate development
  • Coach and develop associates through career development and performance counseling
  • Maintain primary oversight of specifically assigned programs and projects
  • Oversee escalation resolution and work with internal teams to create timely, sustainable solutions
  • Manage completion and team adherence to daily/weekly/quarterly responsibilities to ensure SLAs and objectives are met
  • Perform routine quality review on essential program tasks to ensure quality standards are met and accountability is in place
  • Provide technical support to the business related to accounting requirements, including participation in client meetings and phone conferences as a subject matter expert.
  • Work with clients, auditors, and compliance to ensure the program and financial transactions are administered in accordance with best practices and IRS regulations.
  • Allocate workload, ensure timeliness of client responses, and manage deadlines.
  • Lead the team to resolve reconciling and reporting discrepancies, ensuring data integrity within the various accounting and financial software packages
  • Lead the onboarding of new programs and clientele to the team’s book of business
  • Plan and implement process improvements to reduce complexity, help implement operational standards to increase quality and improve scalability of client programs
  • Promptly and accurately communicate with management and clients about processes, opportunities, and program health
  • Exercise initiative in identifying trends, leading team projects, and conducting research and critical analysis
  • Escalate business trends and/or technical challenges with corresponding remediation recommendations to management team for correction.
  • Ensure client retention, loyalty, and continued opportunities with excellent client service achieved through accurate and timely accounting. Complete research, make recommendations, and resolve complex reconciliation and accounting requests.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field and 5+ years accounting experience required
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial services, philanthropic industry, or trust administration highly preferred
  • 2-3 years of supervisory or management experience required
  • Experience working within fund accounting, financial services or multiple financial systems is required
  • Flexibility and agility to shift priorities, cross-train and work as a collaborative leader in the department
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality of program financials
  • Demonstrated critical thinking to mitigate risk and solve complex problems independently or within the team
  • Time management and organization skills required to meet deadlines and balance project
  • Strong business ethics & personal integrity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and client communication
  • Additional degrees or certifications in accounting, business administration or finance are a plus
  • Preference given to candidates with investment or non-profit accounting experience
  • Experience in data analysis within large data sets and creating efficiencies within the analysis a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and developing diverse teams to achieve success and meet deliverables
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite and basic financial concepts
