Share Email Opening Title Oral History Projects Extern - Summer 2021  Description The Oral History Projects department has a mission to produce, collect, preserve, and make accessible stories of filmmaking history from the perspective of the people who lived it. In this active archival and production department, the extern will have the opportunity to learn some of the basics of the oral history method, explore how archives are integrated within the Academy, and observe how people conduct themselves in a professional context.   This unpaid externship will take place virtually over the summer and has a flexible schedule.   Description: Observe relevant meetings about the oral history and archival processes, both internal to the Academy (Direct Reports, Acquisitions) and with external partners (Moving Image Craft Documentation Alliance, Oral History Association Archives Interest Group) Shadow OHP staff as they engage in curatorial discussions, process collections, and conduct interviews on-set (COVID- safety-permitting) Attend webinars and training conducted by oral history / archives organizations such as OHA and AMIA Explore career opportunities and specialties while gathering information about particular skills needed to advance professionally Connect with like-minded professionals both within and outside the Academy   Position Requirements Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. A desire and aptitude to work in moving image archives or library science with a focus on audiovisual archives. An inherent interest in international film history. A strong interest in learning cataloging/ file management and data entry.   The Academy’s Gold Rising program (formerly Academy Gold) is an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities for a nationwide pool of diverse talent. Externs will not be part of the Academy’s Gold Rising program formally but will have the opportunity to participate in some select programming such as select panels and Lunch & Learn sessions.
