Summary/Objective

The Business Development Manager is responsible for increasing business in assigned metropolitan areas and recovering lost customers.

  • Generate and qualify leads, opportunities, and orders to achieve sales and revenue targets.
  • Preparing and presenting quotes to potential customers and new customers until handover to Account Managers.
  • Present, promote, and sell products to potential customers.
  • Proactively leverage professional relationships or contacts to develop a pipeline for new business in area assigned.
  • Maintain short and long-term business development plans in area of responsibility.
  • Source and attain contacts through cold-calling, networking, and other relevant business development strategies.
  • Research and analyze lost customers/accounts and establish and implement recovery strategies to effectively foster retention.
  • Gather relevant market and competitor information from the field.
  • Collaborate with management on sales goals, planning, and forecasting.
  • Generate daily outreach efforts to prospective clients and new clients until handover to Account Managers.
  • Develop, prepare, and present professional sales presentations at client meetings, industry exhibits, trade shows, conferences, etc.
  • Closing business sales and working with the customer through the closing process.
  • Meet or exceed annual sales goals.
  • Maintain a pipeline of all sales administration using CRM software.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate reporting in CRM.
  • Collaborates with Account Managers regarding established accounts and provides adequate and successful account handover when appropriate.

Competencies

  • Computer proficiency and efficiency with programs including, Microsoft Office Suite, Sales Force or other CRM and/or job tracking software, contact management system, and other online applications as necessary and ability to retrieve information from the internet.
  • Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to call and successfully connect and interact with prospective clients.
  • Persuasive and goal-oriented demeanor.
  • Energetic and personable demeanor.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Knowledge of sales process from commencement to close.
  • Ability to work effectively under stress and pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Demonstrated and established sales ability.
  • In-depth understanding of Company services and its position in the industry.

Work environment

The work environment includes both working indoors in an office space and traveling to various locations to meet with clients either at their place of business or external venues.

Physical demands

Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift and/or move 10 pounds.

Travel required

50%+ travel is required.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or University.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience within the Company or in the Elevator Industry.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ prior sales experience with demonstrated ability to achieve targets.
  • Sales life cycle experience from lead generation through closing.
  • Experience with lead generation and prospect management.
  • Knowledge and experience cold calling.
